Hi kenneth Ssali,

I wonder if the scanner bulb is not getting enough power to heat up and function properly. Do you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or power bar? Even if you have been using a surge protector/power bar all this time and you feel it is not the cause, please connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector In this document you will see, ISSUE: Problems or issues may arise when an HP LaserJet series printer is connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a power strip, or a surge protector
^ This is not limited to Laserjet printers.
If you have not done so already, I suggest trying a hard reset. To do so, leave the printer on and unplug the power cable for 1 minute. While it is unplugged, hold down the power button on the printer for 10-15 seconds to release any built up power, then after the minute has passed, plug the printer back in.

If the issue persists, please let me know if you are seeing an error of any sort on the scanner or computer, perhaps the issue is related to the software instead.

Some type of error has acurred. It may be that your orientation with the file is incorrect .turn your original try again.

My Epson 1240 has just stopped scanning the bottom half of the flatbed. It makes a crunching noise and goes back to the top.

The Track/chain that the scanner bar follows might have some debris/dirt whatever on it stoping it from moving further. Alternatively the motor might have a problem. you can take the cover off and blow that area with a con o' air. Make sure not to get dirt or prints on the scanner or the bottom of the glass

HP 1160 e cuts off side of page. How do I fix this?

Printing or paper?.. If printing check 1. check with another cartridge 2. check half test page(half test page while printing half page stop printer remove cartridge & paper see the image created on cartridge drum or not ,if not clean the Laser scanner assm, check on paper proper image or not if not clean the transfer roller.(looked like sponge roller located just under the cartridge location). beyond this trouble shoot, advised to send it to service center..

If you are scanning via software then the software could be looking for a smaller image. Check the preview and adjust the size as necessary.

I had exactly the same symptoms and it was solved by using the screw on the stepper motor as described in:

You have to take the two metal covers off and then the plastic front, to reveal the motor. Use a screwdriver to move the carriage back and forward by a cm or so, leaving it near the front again, but not tightly - say half a turn away from the end-stop.

Won't stop scanning

L16 Disc coil needs adjustment, Audio is slightly off, and improper noise to DC squelch level detect used to stop scan on active channel. Set to an on freq signal like a NOAA weather channel, and useing a non-metallic tool, adjust to best sounding audio, probably less than a half turn either direction. An on freq signal moduated by 1000hertz, connect scope to speaker and adjust for highest undistorted recovered audio would be better if you could.
