Hello Mary.
By the question, it looks like the lower looper is making loops? If so, check that you are using the correct needles for your serger and that the needle or needles is/are inserted correctly:
- needles must be all the way up into the needle shaft
- needles must face with the flat side to the back and the groove to the front
- use at least needle size 12/80, not smaller

Check these few items, if the loops are still not forming:
- re-thread the serger from the start, keeping in mind to thread in the proper sequence (upper looper, lower looper, needles)
- make sure that the lower looper thread lays on top of the upper looper thread and is passed to the back of the serger and then under the presser foot when threading
- make sure that the thread are securely engaged IN the tension assembly
- make sure that the serger is set for 3-thread or 4-thread overlock (i.e. that the upper looper converter is not engaged)
- check all tension setting
- stitch length should be around 2.5 - 3.5

Let me know how it goes.
Happy serging!

I have a funlock 004D/004, the lower looped broke and I replaced it with one I ordered online. It makes a chain when I run it but when I try to sew fabric nothing catches. Any suggestions?

you have to make sure the looper is properly positioned. With the screw loosened slightly you should be able to move the looper up and down slightly, thus adjusting the timing. You are looking for the lower looper tip to come in slightly above the needle eyes, as close as possible without touching. Then the upper looper must come in right behind the lower looper "head" as close as possible without touching. The upper looper should then extend past the left needle by about 2-2.5mm, and the needles will come down before the eye of the upper looper returns to the right.

On the lower loop blue keeps breaking

Looper thread breakage occurs frequently when the thread path is incorrect or threaded out of order. Most machine must thread the upper looper first, then the lower looper. The lower looper thread ends "draped over" the upper looper in the last step before being pulled toward the back of the machine and under the presser foot.

Another common cause is tension that is too tight.

VERIFY the thread path is correct for every thread!!!! Missing a thread guide or looping around a guide will throw your machine for a "loop."

Another hint, when threading, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot throughout the process and be sure to give each thread an "extra little tug" when going through the tension to make sure it is seated completely. Sometimes, the thread will even "pop" when it seats. When a thread break, checks that the thread has not "jumped" out of a thread guide or the tension disk.

If the thread breaks, it is usually less frustrating (in the long run) if you remove ALL the thread and start over from the beginning. Trying to snake a broken thread out of order through the sequence is frequently 99% UNsuccessful!!! It takes a lot of familiarity with your machine to be successful threading out of order, but there is still a lot of room for failure!!!

Why does the upper looper thread keep busting?

Quite possibly the machine is not threaded correctly, the tension setting for that looper is too tight (could be the upper looper tension disk is stuck or dirty causing the thread to hang), or the thread is looped around something like the thread tree.

Replace the needles. Remove all the thread and re-thread from the beginning. Be sure to RAISE the presser foot before threading. Make sure to thread the threads in the correct order.

Why isn't the upper looper of my Simplicity Easylock looping?

The thread probably had not gone through the threading eye of the upper looper.

My serger is not looping at all. I changed the needles and nothing is working.

Start with the threading sequence. Upper looper, lower looper, left needle, right needle. Your upper & lower loopers must be threaded before your needles or it won't make the stitch. If it still doesn't work, it's out of time and will need to be taken in to a shop.

Machine is jammed, it seems that the upper loop and lower loop are colliding and it seems to be jammed and not able to sew or run properly! have any idea how i can fix it? I tried adjusting the lower loop...

The upper looper is the first place to check normally. It is the one to slip first usually. At this point your best option is to bring it to a repair person and have them reset the loopers and check for any other damage or adjustments needed

Need settings for Simplicity easyLock SL370 rolled hem. Machine belongs to a friend who recently moved and the instruction manual has gone missing. Thank you!

narrow 3thread seam, so remove left needle. loosen top looper tension to 3 or 2, tighten bottom looper tension to 7 or 8. thread top looper with woolly overlock thread and reduce stitch length. there is also a thread finger u need to flick back on throat or needle plate usually to make rolled hem. also move blade to right to trim less fabric as you want the fabtic to roll under inside the seam.

How to i thread my 008d bernina serger?

I believe it is color coded right?
start with the Upper looper follow from the upper looper throught the loops below the machine up through the tension disk and to the place where the thread cone sits. now retrace your steps from the thread to the looper place thread under foot.
by starting from the finishing point to the starting point you know where you are going with the thread when you thread the machine so upper looper lower looper right needle left needle. you must get it exactly correct or it wont work
