Skipped stitches are normally caused by either, a bent or dull needle; using the wrong size needle for the fabric or the machine is incorrectly threaded.

What is the rght tension for The Elna Contessa 410 sewing machine?

Every machine is different, so a "right" tension will vary. The factory standard tension setting is the midway point between high & low number...BUT that needs to be tweaked per your machine.

Skipped stitches? Be sure to use a brand new needle and a needle that is compatible with the thread and fabric you are sewing. (Replacing an old needle is the most common and least expensive fix for a lot of machine problems.)

Optimal tension is when the upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

I have a Hyundai 8 stitch sewing machine and have great difficulty sewing with it. The thread keeps bunching up underneath and misses a lot of stitches. I have followed instructions, both threading up

here is a suggestion for the skipped stitches
Skipped stitches
1. The needle is not inserted correctly
Remove needle & reinsert needle( flat side towards the back of machine)
2. The needle is damaged
replace with new needle
3. The wrong size needle is being used
Choose a needle to suit the thread & fabric
4. The foot not attached correctly
Check & attach correctly

and since it stops with a crunch,, I suggest having the machine
checked to see why that happening

It wont stitch tee/shirt material it misses stitchs

If machine misses stitches consistently, it can be several things.
Needle not installed correctly, not threaded correctly, Bobbin case not installed correctly, make sure the bobbin itself is inserted correctly and spinning in the correct direction.
Finally, machine may need service the timing is off. All actions of a sewing machine are carefully "timed" to form a stitch while sewing. Sewing things that were too heavy for the machine or you hit the bobbin case while sewing can knock the machine out of adjustment.
Let a professional do the maintenance on your machine. Some may opt to show you how to do more in depth maintenance yourself at home.

My machine misses stitches. have changed needle, cleaned machine, still missing stitches

Your machine needs to go into the shop for service. Take a sample of the stitching for the tech to evaluate.
