When installing drivers let the PC install where it wants to, do not change anything yourself or specify a different path, hit the enter button and yes button when you are f=given the option to choose.

Is your account an "administrator" account? This is important in 7 as well as Vista.
Also, did you install whatever it was to an external drive? If so, Windows 7 is bad about changing drive letters of external hard disks every time you restart. If this is the case, click your start orb and right click on "Computer" then left click on "Manage."
In the left pane, there will be "Disk Management." Click on it and give it a second for everything to populate. There are a list of all your drives in the middle towards the bottom. You can right click in their partitions and left click "change drive letter." From there you can change them back to what they where before and things will start working again.
As far as permissions go, they're a pain if you change stuff over manually. But, there is an easy way if you know specifically what folder or file you need permissions to use:
Add Take Ownership to Explorer Right Click Menu in Win 7 8 or Vista
This will add a right click context item where you can seize permissions quick like. It's SUPER handy.
