SOURCE: clicking noise while driving, changes with speed,

If indeed it is coming from the drive line area, it could be a bad universal joint. It may also be a torn boot on the front axle (just thought I'd mention this), or it could be the transfer case chain has a lot of slack, causing the chain to hit against the transfer case housing internally, this would be the worst case scenario.

SOURCE: Drive shaft makes noise as

As far as it making noise as it turns faster I would check your U Joints. The clank that you hear switching into 4wheel low is completely normal. I have had 3 big Chevy trucks and 6 suburbans. The dealer will also confirm. Just make sure when turning 4wheel low on the suburban is in Neutral at a complete stop, OR in neutral rolling at 3mph.

Can rocker arms cause heavy knocking noise

what is the motor from? Typically if you changed out all those parts already and its still a heavy knock, you're looking at crank bearings. How did you change the connecting rod bearings without the crank bearings? or are you referring to something else? I would assume its connecting rod bearings are the issue, if main bearings go you would see an issue in oil pressure.

I took my 2005 Chev. Malibu in for an oil change and now it is making a loud noise from the engine. they say its the water pump? is that possible?

  • Hi, I can help.
  • When your water pump goes bad it will begin to grind. I had one I let got far to long and it sounded deafening when I opened the hood. You can open your hood and listen and see for yourself. The water pump is on the belt line, left side under the hood, last pulley toward the rear.
  • Now if your asking can an oil change effect the water pump? No, not at all. Water pumps go sporadically.
  • It would be odd that you heard no noises before the oil change and now the water pump is loud enough to take notice after the oil change. The bearings usually go a little slower than that.

  • I would be interested in some more of the details to this. And what your overall concerns are. I'd be happy to further. help. Otherwise get a second opinion on your cars condition.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Why do i still hear a knocking noise in the water pump, when i just changed it. also my coolant pressure cap hoes that connects to the radiator blew off while i was driving, why would that happen after i...

Maybe it's not the water pump that is making the knocking noise.

Water pumps generally don't make knocking noises.

It could have a spun camshaft or main bearing if you hear a loud metal to metal knocking noise.

The coolant pressure cap hose that connnects to the radiator:
Is this an overflow hose that leads to an overflow tank? If so, the hose may have a restriction in it.

4.3 vortec engine , engine noise, knocking or tapping on top of engine, not when cold , but starts noise when it heats up, and gets louder as it gets hotter and hotter!!! Sounds like noise is in the center...

The knocking or ticking is going to determine if it is in the top end, lifters, push-rod or rocker arm issue or the bottom end that would include pistons or bearings.
If it is a ticking noise, it will more than likely be a valve train issue.
If a knocking noise, piston or crankshaft related problem.

Attached is a web site that you can listen to a piston slap which is a known issue for your 4.3.
Listen to the noise and see if it sounds similar to your problem. A piston slap will generally sound as though it is coming from the central area of the engine.
Listen to the recording and let me know.
