My GE dishwasher's door is stuck shut ~ I'm assuming a broken latch. I was told to fix the latch, the dishwasher has to be taken out from under the counter top (in order to get the door open). My...

Well I'll try to help you get this opened. I don't know how much space you have at the top side edge of the dishwasher. You need a long stiff rod like a metal clothes hanger straightened so it can reach from the side to a little past the dishwasher middle. You need to push it in between the door top and the dishwasher body up at the latch area. What holds the door closed is a flat metal piece with a plastic hook on the end facing down towards the floor. You need to try and get the rod under the metal piece and lift it slightly, hopefully to unhook the the door. If you can't do that, the only alternative is to pull hard on the door handle and you should be able to break the plastic part of the latch which will then have to be replaced. The part that should break is the top hook which would be an easy replacement, but I can't be sure thats all the damage to the latch that will happen. It may do some damage to the part inside the door also. This is last resort. I'll try to attach a parts breakdown of the tub so you can see the latch hook. Look at item #50

The door won't open - ran and re-ran the wash cycle, and it still won't disengage.

Switch OFF the main power and try. Give a bang by hand on the latch side. It might open. Do not use hammer etc.

If nothing works you have to force open carefully.

Hi

If the dishwasher door will not latch on your GE Monogram dishwasher and it is a new appliance, check that the door is not hitting screws or cabinets underneath the counter. For a new dishwasher, you might also need to push in the top of the control panel as you latch the door. The new gaskets might not have had time to seat properly. It may be necessary to run up to 10 dishwasher cycles for the heat from the washer to seat the gasket, which becomes more flexible after it is used a few times. For older Monogram dishwashers, check the loading rack to be sure no dishes are protruding beyond the back or front of the racks and that no dishes have fallen through to the lower rack. If dishes are dangling down into the lower rack, they could stop the lower rack from completely rolling into the dishwasher and could also stop the spray arm from rotating. Check that no silverware is obstructing the door.

GE Monogram Range Door won't go back on

We found the answer in the installation manual not the owners manual. GE was not helpful.

Step on the latch while holding the door straight up (as if it were closed on the oven). Apply pressure with your foot to the latch and it will open fully. Put the lock in place towards to door. It was then easy to reinstall the door. The installation manual stated that the doors sometimes did this...

Frustrating that the installers are allowed to know this but the owners are supposed to remain in the dark -- unless they are clever like -- ah - ha - ME!

Service call averted!
