Bent blade is a good possibility along with a broken spindle housing/ Just depends how it is doing it.

Ted has the right idea of physically look at the cutting side of the mower deck.

Hi Terri:
How many blades on your cutter deck?
Seems logical that something on the right side is allowing the deck to be lower than on the left. Try parking it on a level flat surface (concrete driveway maybe) and WITH THE ENGINE OFF, lay next to the deck and have a helper raise and lower it. look at the linkages and try to see how they function, and look for a chain or metal bar with a hole in the end that is not connected. Find one, figure out what to connect it to, and you'll be cutting like a good thing.
I told this problem to my son. His suggestion was to let the air out of the tires on the high side. I think I'd prefer to find the problem

Mower deck adjustment

you may have bent brackets in the front. These are the pieces that straddle front and back of the front axle beam. This happens when you hit things sticking up or on the side with the deck.
You also could have bent deck link bars (where you make height adjustment on the front).

The mower is mowing uneven in the front. what can i do? it seems that it is scalping the grass but both sides are level

Look under the mower deck. If you can't see well and work on it, you may have to remove the mower deck and flip it over on the ground. Grass and mud buildup in the decj could cause a blade to pinch grass, 'scalping' the lawn. Clean it all out. Dull blades cause cut grass to look torn and brown. Remove and sharpen. Bent blade will cause uneven cut. Replace it. Good luck! Please rate if you found this helpful, thanks!

Setting the cutting heighth on my riding mower.

sounds like you have some bent blades or spindle shafts. If not then the lift bracket on the front of the deck may be bent or the weld broken or cracked.

Hower do you do the adjusting for height on the

The dial only sets the height or the total deck, it is more of a stop than an adjuster.

If it seems too low in the front, you can adjust it by tightening the nuts on the 2 bolts/pins that are attached to the deck and the frame.

First of all, though, check your tire pressures, 10 psi in the rear and 14 psi in the front. If front pressures are too low, this will make a huge difference in your cut. You want to adjust the bolts an equal amount to maintain your side to side level keeping in mind that it should have 1/4 to 1/2 " difference front to rear.

Make your adjustments on your driveway or garage floor so you have a flat level surface to go by.

If you make these adjustments and it still scalps, you will either have to set the deck to cut a bit higher or approach the high spots from a different angle or remember to lift the deck up a bit with the handle when you get to those areas

Hope this solves your problem

How do you adjust the cutting deck?

Pete, go back to partstree and look at the diagram for lift arms. Item #27 is your lift cables. You will notice there are several little ferrules or balls on the cables, you unhook the cable and slide these up or down as needed to adjust your deck. If you need the deck higher, you would position more of the balls under the lift arm on each side. If you can't get the desired height then your cables are stretched and need to be replaced

Mandrel on right side has broken 3 times have only done 7.3 hours

It sounds like your blade is hitting the ground when you are mowing. If you have high spots in your yard the blade will cut into the ground and the mounts on the mandrel will break. Make sure the mower rake adjustment is set correctly, the mower blade should be level or a maximum of 1/4 inch lower in the front. This adjustment is done with the adjuster bolt that runs from the front of the mower to the frame under the muffler, it may have one or two rods connecting the mower at this point. Also make sure the wheels are set down far enough so they can prevent the deck from scalping, they have five different mount holes,if they are up in the highest they will not do anything.Unfortunately these mower mandrels will not take a lot of punishment and they can break when the blades contact anything like dirt or tree roots. Your ultimate action may be just to mow the grass a little higher to keep from scalping. Hope this helps.
