The float may not be adjusted properly, or one of the jsets is still clogged.

SOURCE: I have a coleman powermate 6875 engine runs fine

The unit should have a pop out fuse or set of fuses.
If you are drawing too much currant from the unit, it will shut down. If you plug in a simple 100Watt light and test the unit and see if it stops generating currant.
Max is only 5500.
You may also have shutoff thermo sensiors, if the caseing of the generator runs too hot or low on oil, it will shut unit down.

Keep in mind, if you have a shut off valve, turn the shut off valve, closing the fuel supply while running.
This will remove all gas from the bowl and not spoil after setting for long periods of time.
Same with oil, it will do damage to the engine if it just sets for long periods.

SOURCE: How to flash or remagnitize Coleman Powermate 6875 or Husky 40500

Field Flashing of Portable Generators This tip comes from the Briggs & Stratton Customer Education Department. As an alternative to flashing a rotor winding with a battery applied to the brushes, an electric drill may be used. Follow these steps to flash the generator:

  • Plug the electric drill into the generator receptacle. (Cordless drills do not work)
  • If the drill is reversible, move the direction switch to the forward position.
  • Start the generator
  • While depressing the trigger on the drill, spin the drill chuck in reverse direction. This will excite the field and the generator will now produce electricity. If spinning the chuck one direction does not work, try spinning the chuck in the other direction as you may have the reverse switch positioned backwards.
Use caution not to get your hand or other materials caught in the chuck. As soon as the field is excited, the generator will produce power and the drill will turn on.
The reason this works is because the electric motor in the drill will act as a small generator when spun backwards. The magnets in the drill's motor induce a voltage into the motor windings, which is fed back through the trigger, cord and into the generators receptacle. From there it goes into the power winding of the stator. The voltage going through the power winding creates a magnetic field, which is intensified due to the iron core of the stator laminations. The rotor intersects this magnetic field as it is spun past the power winding, thus inducing a voltage in the rotor winding. Once current flow is present in the rotor winding the rotor has been flashed.
If flashing the field does not make the generator work, you may have additional problems, besides a lack of magnetism in the rotor. Further testing will be needed. Hopefully, this will give a simple way to field flash your generator if needed - Bruce Perrault

SOURCE: Spark but no fuel . coleman Powermate 6250

if it's flooding the float may have a tiny hole which makes it not float as well and too much fuel will stall the engine...If it's not getting enough fuel to keep running then its usually because of a small piece of dirt blocking a hole..under the carb there should be a brass bolt...take that off and check that the two side holes are clear...then check the center orifice and blow it out...there is also a tiny little hole up near where the threads start...use a wire from a wire brush to make sure its clean....also clean out the bowl and then reassemble...this works 90% of the time for me

SOURCE: What kind of oil do

You can use numerous engine oils. 10W - 40, 30W Detergent, 30W Non detergent (SAE)
The best all around above 40 deg F and below 100 F oil to use is a 30W detergent oil. Brand name does NOT matter. Oil level should be checked EACH time you add fuel. Change oil any time the oil appears Dark BLACK when checked regardless of the hour intervals. .

Coleman Powermate keeps stalling!

1. Turn off the gas

Remove the fuel bowl and the brass jet in the bottom of the carb. The bolt / cap nut for the fuel bowl has 2 holes in it make sure they are clean. Also make sure the pin hole in the jet is clean along with the holes in the side of the jet. (daylight check of pin hole)

Usually on the bottom of the gas tank there is a fuel bowl. Remove the bowl and dump contents making sure it is clean then re-install the fuel bowl for the tank.

Go back and reinstall the carb jet

Now lets flush the fuel system.
Get something for catching fuel uder the carb then momentarily turn on the fuel to flush the system and catch the fuel.

Turn the supply fuel off and reinstall the filter bowl and cap nut.

Turn on fuel supply.

Time to it test now.

A lot of times, things like this sit, too long, and the gasoline turns into turpentine, real thick and gooey, will not go through jets, If you can drain the bowl on the carb, there might not be one, but, try to drain the line if you can, you could drain the whole tank while you are at it, because it is probably no good either. Put in some fresh gas, give the cord a yank and see what happens, if it starts and sputters, rev it up and try to get the fuel moving. It might clean itself up, It might need to be taken apart and cleaned out. Hope this helps, Let Fixya know if it does.

A coleman generator 6875 won't start please give

Dump ALL old fuel out of tank, you might have got a clog in the fuel line, carburator, fuel valve. Remove carb bottom Sediment bowl then spray Carb cleaner thru the gas inlet AT the carb 3-4 secs CAUTION: KEEP YOUR HEAD BACK.. that cleaner hurts if you get it in your eyes... and NEVER SPRAY A HOT ENGINE (np with yours tho no start) Refill tank with NEW fuel (or strained at least if emergency remote repair) Place a suitable catch container over gas inlet line to carb (at carb) open fuel valve chk for fuel FLOWING (no dripping) into container. replace fuel line to carb start as normal
if not firing still chk that spark plug, might need cleaning now that rest is ok.

the usual reason is a stuck float in your carburator , can be caused by dirt/rust etc , remove carb bowl and clean , there is also a very small needle valve which is attached to this float ( metering needle ) these can leak.
if all else fails always turn off the fuel supply to the generator whilst not in use

Can't start coleman powermate 500 generator

I had one of these and it was very sensitive about getting the carb jet plugged up from leaving gasoline in the tank and carb bowl. I had to take it apart and clean it w/ card claener several times. I can tell you the engine is super sensitive ab out the needle jet setting. Too rich or too lean and it won't run at all or will gas you out from the smoke.

Coleman 6875, Does it have an auto idle???

Hi,
If you've got an auto idle function you'll also have a switch somewhere to shut it off, so look for that first.
Engine surging is almost always a problem somewhere in either the air cleaner or the carb. Check the air cleaner, if it's not dirty take the bowl off the carb and look for dirt in the bottom.

Regards,
Carl
