If there is a circuit board between the cord and the motor it is certainly replaceable. Unfortunately my suppliers don't have schematics for the Miele models. You might try the Miele website, if there is one, or call your local repair shop to see if they service them. Sorry I can't be more help.

I believe you should have an amber light, if you are seeing a red light located above the bag compartment door, that indicates a fault with either the electronic module or the motor. could be your retractable cord assembly's contacts..

push the power on while pulling out the cord. see if it tries to start.

Your machine is clogged ... probably in the hose.

ASSURE the air path is clear and the filters are clean before yhou proceed.

it was overheated that is why it worked downstairs after cooling off.

Sounds like the cable may be damaged. I think you're going to need professional repair... sorry can't be more help.

Model S718 doesn't come up as a good model number. What did you want to know about a red light?

Will it power up without the hose attached? If it does then you have a clogged hose. If not, there is a circuit board by the motor that may be bad.
