Check for any loose solder terminals at its main power regulator section circuit. Re-solder all the suspected solder terminals; by applying a little more solder to each terminals. The fault is with any loose solder terminal/s at this circuit stage.

after 4 or 5 yrs (depending on usuage ) in some TVs on mainboard & CRT tube's circuit board at some soldering joints cracks develops ... then due to loose contact TV behaves as you have described ........ when you are hitting that lightly on its side then these cracks at soldering joints are getting connected temporarly & for few seconds or minutes you are getting normal picture ....... so solution is most of the soldering joints on mainboard & on CRT circuit board has to be resoldered ....... only good tv service engineer can do this without shorting joints or damaging components..... so in your place contact few TV service engineers & ask them how much they will charge for resoldering joints on mainboard & crt tube's circuit board ......

hit your TV on left side or right side or on top & then observe ..........you will get normal picture or it comes & again it goes....if it is happening like that then following is the situation..........after 4 or 5 yrs in some TVs on main board ( also on CRT circuit board ) at some soldering joints crack develops....then due to loose contact picture becomes small in size or abnormal width, or rolls etc ...........when we hit that lightly then those loose contacts joins temporarly & again picture appears normally for some time............so solution is .....TV main board & CRT circuit board should be observed carefully & most of the joints should be re-soldered.......only a good service engineer can do that........even after hitting TV lightly if there is no response then main board has to be checked completely........in your case iam sure it is loose connection problem.........joints should be re - soldered ...100% it works again ................this problem cannot be solved by user unless user has idea about components( resisitors, transisitors, diodes,...etc) , have soldering iron , multimeter & other tools....................so contact good TV service engineer .............iam from bangalore - 09986222774 - sathyavijayasarathibabu@ymail.com ( computers, laptop, printers, etc ).

I have a 32" tv jvc iart and horizontal white

Hello
You are seeing vertical retrace lines. This faut is due to the vertical output section inside your TV. To rectify this fault, you must open your Tv. Just open it after unpluging it from the wall power socket. Locate the vertical output section on the printed circuit board.
It is easy to locate. You can see four wires goes from the deflection yoke; the coil fitted around the neck of the picture tube. Out of which two of them will be thick, usually red and blue coloured, and the other two will be thin. These two thin wires are for vertcal scanning. Just follow these two thin wires, and you will reach a point where these four wires are pluged onto the main circuit board, very near to the LOT. Upside down the printed circuit board, and follow the print of that two thin wires, and you will reach to the vertical output section of your Tv.
Before doing anything, just look for any loose soldering or bad solderings there. It is very difficult to find out loose solderings, as thay will be microscopic, I advice you to resolder most of the soldering points there by applying a little more solder; without making any solder short. Resolder all the pins of the vertical output IC, and see the effect.
If this does not help, replace the two or three electrolytic capacitors, at about 1000MF to 2200MFD there, with same capacity and voltage ratings. Make sure about their polarity, as electrolytic capacitors have both positive and negative terminals like torch cells. Note the polarity when resoldering them out of the board. This must solve ypur problem.
If you need anymore asistance, feel free to contact me through Fixya. OK
Wish you sucess.

Toshiba Model 53HX71: Bottom half of screen and sound is fine; top half of screen has collapsed to a horizontal line in the middle of the screen. Repairman I spoke to briefly said it probably won't be...

Hello
Your TV has vertcal scanning problem. All picture tube based TVs have, both vertical and horizontal scan to spread the picture to entire screen. When vertical scan section meets with a fault, the picture will collapse horizontally and fi horizontal scan section has a troubl, picture will collapse vertically. Your TV s fault , we technically say, to be vertical foldover. This is due to the vertical output section, a circuit part, inside the circuit board of your TV.
To rectify this fault you must open your TV. Unplugh it from the power socket, and open it. Locate the vertical output section, which is easy to do. Look at the deflection yoke, the coil fitted on the neck of the picture tube, and you will see four wires from it going to the main circuit board. Out of which, two will be thick, normally red and blue in colour, connected to the opposite direction on the deflection yoke, and the other two will be thin. follow the two thin wires, said later, and you will reach to a plug in point on the printed circuit board.
Before doing anything, just look at the soldering of that section carefully for any loose soldering, or bad soldering. Usually, the components in the vertical output section will get heated during working, and ahve a cahnce to get loose contacted soldering joints. Just resolder all the suspected points by applying a little more solder, and see the effect. If thi doesn't help, check the IC used in that section for trouble. Some capacitors will be there in this section, will get dried as aging, replace them first, as they are ver few in numbers, When replacing capacitors, note their polarity, as electrolytic capacitors have both positive and negative terminals like torch cells. Before replacing the vertical IC, replace all the capacitors, especially, two or three large capacitors on that section. Just do these and if you want any more assistance feel free to contact me through Fixya. OK
