Re: I need to know the year of my Ford V- 8 engine. It is...
You need one more bit of information!!!
What we have is your engine date code, providing the year of manufacture, but not the "Decade" of manufacture. You will need the Engine Tag/Plate number for additional info.
9K28
- 9 = ninth year of a certain decade
- K = month
- A = Jan
- M = December
- (i is not used)
- Next 2 digits are numbers, hence I think your B is an 8
Your engine was manufactured on October 28, 19x9 to find x you need to ...
Locate the Engine Tag / Plate... (this is for Ford Engines)
- It can be near the coil, where the bolts secure it.
- by/under the oil dipstick tube
- under heat indicator bulb
- under the stud attaching carburetor (this is for larger engines)
There will be a long number on it.
And it will start with an Alpha Character...
- 1st position - Probably not an "A"... but this letter designates the "Decade" in which the engine was built.
- "B" = 1950's, C = 1960's, etc
- 2nd position - will be a numeral from 0 - 9 and this designates the year (1st to 10th) of the above decade it was built.
- 3rd position - Basic design of the Vehicle
- example: A - Generic engine, full size, E or T - Truck, L - Lincoln, M - Mercury, and for you car buffs... O - '67-'76 Torino's and all Fairlanes, Z - Mustangs,
- 4th position - Almost always an E - meaning made by the Engine Design Team (which Design Team? Engine design team)
- And the last 4 positions are the part number of that engine
Just for fun, this is a cool site...
