There are gears that turn the rear wheels, they also strip out the wheels after they are used alot. You will need to replace the wheels

Engine cuts out and then get steerng assist failure

It would be an advisory noise telling you that the power assistance is lost when the engine stops. Run fault codes to find the reason for the engine stoppage and repair the faulty sensors.

Hi my lambretta lost power and cut out I tried to kick start it but the engine locked up I then removed the head and barrell to check piston all ok Is my crank dammaged

It could actually be several things, con rod main bearing or broken gearbox transmission trouble. To check with the barrel and cylinder removed see if the con rod moves freely and smoothly. If it does then your trouble is further down transmission. drain oil, remove side case and take a look. Jack the engine so the rear wheel can be spun. Then with the engine in gear, roll the rear wheel and look to see where the locking up occurs. If you are in any doubt, use the scooterotica forum to post pictures and questions www.scooterotica.co.uk you can get all your technical questions answered there.

I have a Heritage Softail 87 on my way home I lost all gears, clutch feels fine, and I can feel it select gears but still no engagement of the gears, the bike also runs fine but no neutral light. Cheers...

Put the bike in gear with the engine not running. Try to push the bike. If the bike rolls freely, the final drive belt is broken. Check the tension on the belt. The only other thing that I can think of is the final drive belt front pulley has stripped out. The early belt drive bikes, the front belt drive pulley was very thin in the area where the splines were cut for the final drive gear. In 1994, Harley can out with an improved front pulley and offered a retrofit kit to replace the earlier models. When the front pulley strips the splines out, it will not drive the rear drive belt. The final drive gear simply turns inside the center bore of the pulley.

To change the belt on your Softail, you'll have to pull the outer primary cover, the entire primary drive mechanism, the inner primary, the starter, the exhaust system (to get the starter off), the rear wheel, and the swing arm. If the pulley is bad but the belt is good, you do not have to pull the rear wheel and the swingarm.

Good Luck
Steve

No gas or spark

Try your inertia switch in the cargo area in back. Its located on the passenger side rear wheel well. Push the button.

Lost rear traction on 03 Impreza AWD

I have the same car. Mine is automatic. What is yours?

Possible scenarios:

1/ Is the FWD on the dash panel lit up? This will tell you that only the front wheels are engaged without power to the rear wheels. The manual tells you if you have a flat tire in your car, you have to make it into a FWD by inserting a fuse in your fuse box. Check and see if the circuitry isn't shorting out your awd which is making it fwd.

2/ Because the car has open diffs in the front and rear axles, you (or your friend) might see only the front wheels spinning and not the rear wheels. The power is transfered to the wheel with lowest resistance. With the front wheel spinning, one of the rear wheel(s) should also spin. Might not be a solution but maybe you can't see the rear spinning wheel because it's spinning on the other side.

Power steering

Support front wheels off ground. Chock rear tires, get an assistant for safty. Start engine (do not put in gear) step outside of car and manually turn wheels left and right by hand. Cut off engine. Turn key back to release steering lock. Manually turn wheels by hand again. If it requires the same ammount of strength to turn wheels, then Rack and Pinion is bypassing internally. Solution... replace rack & pinion.
