The bobbin push button (button next to bobbin under the throat plate) must be in the sew position. When it is in the wind ( down to left) the machine will not sew. You need to push the button to the right to release it.

When I fill the bobbin with thread, it doesn't load evenly and bobbin gets jammed.

When you wind a bobbin, the thread usually goes through a "feeder" which creates a tiny bit of tension and a lot of direction. Make sure you have it through this. It is usually two circular discs, cupped, and back to back.

How do you remove the hand wheel on a singer model #648 sewing machine

Sounds like you might have a broken gear in the transmission. Since the Touch and Sew series (aka Touch and Swear, Sew and Throw, etc.) are so touchy about adjustments, I'd probably take this one to a good sewing machine mechanic and let him/her do the heavy lifting on this.

Singer Touch and Sew Model 648 will not zigzag

There is an arm in the head that does the zig zag movement and attaches to the needle bar with a pin. If that isn't connected zig zag won't work at all.

Singer sewing machine needs a bobbin

Which machine do you have? Many Singer parts are still available, even for older machines. (I have a Touch & Sew 620 from the late 60s and can get parts for it from http://www.sewingpartsonline.com and other sites.)

What is your specific problem with the bobbin case? Is it the timing problem or damage to the bobbin case/hook mechanism? The parts list for most Singer machines can be gotten here: http://www.singerco.com/support/replacement-parts-chart .

Please add a comment with more details of your problem and the model of your machine.

Singer touch n sew 750 winding bobbins

You can find Singer bobbin winding instructions at http://www.singerco.com/resources/bobbin_wind.html.
"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

Singer touch and sew 648

Thread the machine as if you were going to sew. When you thread the needle, pull the thread off to the left and wrap it around the thumb screw on the left and just above the needle. Wrap it only 2 or 3 times and hold the end of the thread. With bobbin in place and the face plate slid open, push the thumb lever on the left under the face plate to the left. Begin to 'sew'. As you do, the bobbin will wind and the thread you are holding will detach. Once the bobbin is full to the outside line, slide the face plate the closed position. As it closes, it will release the thumb lever. Put the needle in the slightly lowered position and slide something blunt under the pressure foot pulling thread from both the bobbin and the needle; cut the thread when you've pulled it out sufficiently.
