Unless there is a mic input on the system you can't just connect a mic. You need a pre amp and an amp for the mic.
You could get a mic amp then get a mixer to combine whatever you're playing and the mic.

Is a microphone an output device?

no, output devices are things like speakers or a monitor. They output sound or images, microphones are input devices because they put sound into the system not out of it.

I accidentally disconnected my microphone and now I can connect it again. Please help me and my external microphone won't connect.

I would recommend you clean the contact (metal part) of the microphone jack, as that can often cause problems. It could also be that the volume of your microphone is on low. You can change this in the system tray (sound icon).

hey all, althought the manual says to hold down '0' along with the power button, which didt work.

For me it worked by holding '2' then turning on the mic (pressing the power button).

So try all the numbers.

Microphone too quiet

That's probably not going to work.
Mic level is extremely low compared with line level.
Your sound card is expecting a line level input.
It's simply not made to plug a microphone into (you must be using an adapter or two just to make the connection)
Look for a USB Audio Interface with XLR or 1/4" microphone inputs - these interfaces are pretty generic these days and easy to use ... just plug into your computer via USB and then plug the mic into the interface ... which has a volume control on it ...
I use a Tapco Link.USB ... and like it

Samson CO2 Pencil microphones

The CO2 is a condenser mic (also called capacitor mic), and as such, requires phantom power to operate. Ensure that your system is providing phantom power to the microphone, usually accomplished by flipping a switch near your mic input on your sound board.
