Just installed new batteries but the charge doesn't last as long as it used to.

When I first got the chair, it would go all day but it started losing charge earlier so I change batteries but still not lasting as long as before.

SOURCE: last month I replaced the

This is usually a sign of a dead cell in the battery pack but since this is a sealed unit and most likely a NikAd unit you won't be able to repair that. On the other hand, if there is a loose connection inside the motor or the motor is going out and pulling more power than normal you will get this condition. You have a couple of options. Option 1 is to open the motor up and clean it out of the build up and re lubricate it properly. Dust build up and gunk, for lack of a better term, could be hindering the motors operation. Option 2 would be to replace the motor itself. I have never opened one of these but I have seen them and there is nothing easy about it but it would be cheaper to open it and repair and clean the inside than to replace it totally. If that fails then you are left with replacing the motor. This all assumes the battery you installed was a new battery and not refurbished and doesn't have a bad or weak cell in it causing the problem. The battery is always the first place you look when you have this problem. Your power available gauge is operated by testing the available Volts unfortunately the Motor requires Amperage. You can have volts available but if there is a bad cell there won't be sufficient Amperage.

SOURCE: Why will charge in chair only last short time ? I have already installed new batteries and replaced charger

Does your chair turn off automatically in about 10 minutes. Sometimes customers make the request to the tech to set the chair to never turn off because it is an inconvenience to have to turn it back on. As you have experienced, its a much greater inconvenience to have a dead battery. There are also longer settings up to 1 hr. The batteries may be fine, you are just running them down because the chair is on when not in use. If this is the case, you need to contact a tech who has a programmer that can change this setting. I had one customer that had a similar issue as yours but also had performance issues. Riding on a flat surface the chair would do fine, but when he would start to go up an incline, the battery level would start to drop as the motor would torque. I found that he had a bare wire rubbing against the frame and it would not affect the performance until it required more power from the batteries. Look at all the wiring if you are able and see if it is intact. The worst case may be that you have a bad wire that has a break in it and will do the same thing as the bare wire scenario. One more thing you can look at is the battery connections. If they are loose, you will see alot of problems. Bad charge, low performance, wont climb inclines. Everything has to be tight and in good condition to get the best performance. Check all connectors. I have seen melted connectors do the same thing. If you have any melted components, get the unit serviced. You don't want a fire under your seat.

Joe See my tips on charging batteries No you don't have to leave the chair on when charging. Charge overnite after using it during the day. Always have the charger off when plugging it into the chair and unplugging from the chair. The charger you have doesn't have an on/off switch so get a power strip with the on/off switch, plug that into the wall and plug your charger into the strip use the switch on the strip to turn the charger on and off this will save you having to plug and unplug the charger rom the wall. Always store or put the chair up fully charged. If you don't use the cair daily charge at least once a week. It takes 9-10 chargings to get the batteries operating at 100% so use the chair and charge overnight while you sleep Never leave the charger on the chair more than 12 hours Hope this helps you

Janice check your charger it could not be charging the batteries. Now always charge your batteries overnight while you sleep When you get up lights on the charger should be red and green if they are red and yellow then the charger hasn't fully charged the batteries and overnight should be more than enough time to charge fully. This could indicate a bad battery remember new doesn't always mean good. Like they say always charge before use and this goes for new batteries too you need to charge new batteries nightly for 10-15 days before they start operating at 100%. If when you plug in the charger before bed and the lights are red and green then there is a problem with the charger or the batteries or the charger circuit Hope this helps you

My chair has been sitting for 4 months in garage. Chair MPV5 was rarely used. When charging, battery charger indicator shows green light. Chair still does not turn on. What should I be doing?

Replace the batteries and charge before use then charge nightly for 20 days Use the chair daily so you can get a good charge nightly to get the batteries operating at 100% After the 20 days If you don't use the chair daily always store fully charged and then charge once a week overnight. Should work fine once you get the new batteries in You will need to get 2 U1 batteries for your chair do not get Wally World or automotive batteries You must replace with sealed deep cycle batteries made for power chairs Hope this helps

You definitely need new batteries. There are 2 size U-1 batteries in the chair that will last between 1.5 and 2 years. Get the deep cycle sealed gel lead acid batteries, preferably AGM. Hope this helps.

Batt. were left uncharged for a year. how do I recharge them. they don,t charge with the charger on the wheelchair.

You can't recharge them. they are dead and if you could they wouldn't last. You will have to spring for 2 new batteries. Check with an Interstate battery outlet and purchase 2 U1 sealed batteries for your chair charge before use and charge daily for 20 days to break them in. If you don't use the chair daily charge at least once a week Hope this helps

Sorry but it sounds like weak batteries. I would replace both batteries and after installation fully charge before use. Then ask Mom to use the chair more each day so you can charge them overnight each day for the next 20 days. It will break in the batteries and get them operating at 100%. If you can get her to use it more and charge it overnite and always put it up at full charge the batteries should last 2-3 years Hope this helps

Yep It sure does Why didn't you charge the chair for 2 months? Charge at least once a week if you don't use it daily. Always break in the new batteries by using the chair daily for 10-15 days charging everynite then charge once a week if it sits for that long without use. Always put up fully charged. Do this and your batteries should last 3 -4 years Charge overnite if you use daily and never charge more than 24 hours Good Luck

Jeff WRONG!!!!!! I would demand that the dealer give you new batteries (they should be under a six month warranty anyway) You are to NEVER repeat NEVER leave the charger or chair plugged in all the time. The most you should ever have to charge the batteries is overnite or 12 hours. Never leave the charger plugged into the chair more than 24 hours. Doing so might even void the warranty. Tell that dealer or however told you that to take a hike or at least know what they are talking about. Have them read an owners manual (if they can read) under care and use of batteries Geez it just upsets me to have people give out such bad information to their customers. Now the batteries need to be replaced and when you get new ones charge them before you use the chair then charge then everynight if you use the chair daily if you don't use it daily make sure it is fully charged when you put it up and at least once week (if idle that long). I would recommend using your chair daily for a little while to run the batteries down some and then charging overnite for the first 20 days that you have the new batteries this will break them in. Hope this helps and sorry for the rant
