SOURCE: I WANT TO PURCHASE ONLY CASSETTE TAPE DECK HEAD ; AMORPHOUS Z 3 HEAD FOR TECHNICS CASSETTE TAPE DECK

All you can do is look on E bay for someone who is selling such an item. The fact that they are no longer produced is going to make the price high. This is the reality of cassette tape decks these days.

I have had my 1991 lexus ls400 for a couple years now and I've been using the cassette deck in the stock stereo unit all the time by using one of those cassettes with the 3.5mm headset wires coming out...

The tape deck in the unit probably needs to be fixed. Even though you are using an artificial tape supplying a signal to the heads, there are still motors and belts running in the unit if it thinks a tape is in there. Now a belt or a motor has failed and the deck will not stay in tape mode. Thus pulling the unit out of the dash and having it serviced will be required to use this I pod function. There has to be easier ways to do this- I would consult Crutchfield about it.

Cd player only shows

You will need to check the swith that change from Tape to CD to other functions. If the switch is good. Then the next thing is to check for tape function. Can you try to fast forward, reverse. If these functions are working properly then the pinch roller ( the little wheel that is pulling the tape need to be replaced). If nothing moves then you need to replace the belt and the wheel and possible the motor at the same time

Thaks for helping. My tape deck door has suddenly stopped working. the tape is inside and when i turn on the wpower there is a clicking sound. it is a TEAC AD-500 CD player/reverse cassete deck

Without physically looking at the cassette deck myself, I cannot be 100% sure the tape is wrapped around the pinch roller and capstan. The capstan is the chrome rod which the rubber pinch roller pushes to regulate the speed of the tape moving across the head. However it is approximately a 90% chance the take up reel for the tape stopped working from a bad tape or a loose belt which drives the tape take up reel. The clicking sounds like it could be the auto reverse solenoid because it thinks the tape has reached the end of play. The fun part is to remove the tape which you may have to disassemble the front panel if you cannot gain access to the tape from the top or bottom. You will need to cut the tape and remove it from the capstan and pinch roller to open the cassette door. Sometimes you can remove the capstan to free the tape. Once you have cleaned all the tape out of the unit make sure the belt for the take-up is good. If it is glazed, cracked, loose or broken order a belt. Clean all the pulleys and capstan and replace the belt. Your unit should be functional after the above procedure.

Audio cassette tape broken. How do I repair?

Radio Shack used to sell a splicing block and tape for fixing broken tapes. They may still, and you can order online from other sources.

You need to pull the tape out from the cassette a little way. Overlap the tape sections a little and get them aligned, which is what the splicing block is for. Cut across both pieces and take away the scraps. This makes sure the pieces match up. Lastly you place special splicing tape over the join and trim the edges. You need the special tape, since it's designed so the adhesive won't ooze out and get on the tape recorder heads.

If the tape has come loose fro the hub inside the cassette, you need to open the housing and use the splicing tape to fasten the recording tape (actually the plastic leader tape) back in place. Depending on how the cassette was made, there may be screws holding it together, or it may have been glued. Some commercially-made music tapes and bargain-grade cassettes weren't made to be opened. If you do open the tape, don't lose the little metal piece with the felt square that goes across the opening behind the tape. This is the pressure pad that keeps the tape pressed against the head in the recorder. Without it, the tape won't work properly.

Cassette players jammed

actually you can not lubicate the cassette players. it has to do with a belt inside. your players may need to be demagnitized. i would go to radio shack or electronic store and try a cassette cleaner/demagnitizer and see if that solves the problem. i would even try different batteries or a ac power adapter if you have the plug. some batteries make units run slow. i would even get a can of dust cleaner that you find in the electronics section. you spray it in and it cleans the inside of the dust that may be inside.
