It's a question of access. Look underneath vehicle for any obstructions (Otherwise, obstructions must be removed first, e.g. support brace, splash shield, stabilizer, etc, ...). If you can see entire pan and all bolts, just drain oil and remove pan . Remove old gasket. Clean both surfaces. Install new gasket. Use high temp RTV (red). Replace oil pan. Hand tighten bolts. Then use correct torque and torque pattern.

SOURCE: change oil pan gasket

This Is A Fairly SIMPLE Procedure The IMPORTANT Thing is To Use Generous Amount of Sealant and Allow Plenty of TIME for Sealant to CURE After Pan is On and Tightened Over Night At Liest

REMOVAL

  1. Disconnect negative cable from battery and remove engine oil dipstick.
  2. Raise vehicle on hoist and drain engine oil.
  3. Remove bending brace to transaxle attaching bolt.
  4. Remove bolts attaching dust cover to transaxle housing. Lower dust cover to gain access to oil pan bolts.
  5. Remove oil pan screws and remove oil pan.
INSTALLATION
  1. Clean surfaces and apply a 1/8 inch bead of Mopar(R) Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or equivalent, at the parting line of the chain case cover and the rear seal retainer.
    1. Use a new pan gasket.
    2. Install pan and tighten screws to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.).
    3. Install dust shield and bending brace to transaxle housing.
    4. Lower vehicle and install oil dipstick.
    5. Connect negative cable to battery.
    6. Fill crankcase with oil to proper level.

SOURCE: how much to change a oil pan gasket for 2001 grand prix 3.8 gt

If you want to repair the oil pan I would also check lower engine mount for leaking oil and cracks in anti sway bar near fitting's. This due to engine mount is oil filled. OEM sway bar is made of tubular steel and they crack easy. Replacement sway bar is solid steel. Here's the kicker. When they pull the lower frame to service oil pan. The engine mount and sway bar are attached to that frame. A honest mechanic should only charge for parts ($35 for mount and $100 for sway bar) and maybe a extra hour. My mechanic did all in 5 hours. FYI gasket is only $35 bucks. Good luck

SOURCE: 2000 silverado changed oil pan gasket rear main

Ouch. A main, rod, or cam bearing failure will cause these symptoms. Did this happen before or after this work was performed?

Does my chevy silverado 2004 v8 2wd ls transmission have a filter and drain plug

No drain plug, the filter is inside trans. Remove trans oil pan (it will be full of tran fluid so loosen bolts on one end and work your way to other end) May have to take bolts out of a cross member and slid it back to get to all the pan bolts. The filter is flat and you'll see it once the pan is dropped. Pull straight down to remove. Clean out sludge and old fluid from pan and scrape old gasket off.
Push new filter into place. Its a good idea to use gasket sealer to help keep it from leaking and to help hold gasket in place so bolt holes stay lined up while bolting up pan. Tighten all bolts evenly. Then refill tran with the fluid your service manual list. Operate your truck in all gears (shifting back and forth) and recheck trans fluid level. Its not a hard job to change filter and fluid. If you can change your own motor oil and have a rachet and sockets then you couldnt have any problems. Just get your filter and trans fluid from your local auto parts store like Autozone or Advance Auto Parts.

Pep boys wants 900 to fix oil pan gasket how can i do it myself

You need to get the motor up high to get the pan out, and if its a 4x4 the front axle is in the way too.
And dont let pep boys do this. Most of them are kids still in high school or they cant get a job in a real garage.

Changed oil pan gasket now i dont have much oil pressure

If oil pressure was fine before you changed the gasket, it's likely that some debris was loosened up (probably under the pan baffle) and got onto the oil pump pickup, restricting flow. The only other cause of low pressure would be worn engine bearings, which would not happen just by changing oil pan, unless you messed with either bearings or pump while pan was down. Remove the pan and carefully inspect the pump pickup for debris!!! DO NOT DRIVE VEHICLE 'TILL YOU HAVE CORRECTED THIS OR YOU WILL DAMAGE BEARINGS!!!
