What causes my booster pump to increase pressure even after I shut power and or water supply off?


something wrong here. your incoming pressure is 4 psi ( tank pressure to the pump and you use a pump to boost pressure to a maximum of 65 psi at which point the pump is shut off ( all taps close off)
yet with no pumps running the pressure goes up to 100 psi
Find where you are getting pressure in that is making the pump leak
if you have 100 psi to the pump when it is turned off, then it would not be turning on ( power on) as the shut off pressure is set at 65 psi and the line pressure is 100 psi

Well Pump Problems The Well Pressure Switch


If you have a water well pump then you also have a well pump pressure switch that controls the well pump. This little device can be very confusing. It also is known by many names. These may include pressure switch, well pressure switch, well pump pressure switch, water well pressure switch, well tank pressure switch, and many other variations. All of them refer to the same part that controls the on and off function of the water well pump whether it is a submersible well pump, a deep well jet pump, or a shallow well jet pump.

Some the problems that are most common with the well pump pressure switch.

  1. The contacts burn out and fail to conduct the current through them to the well pump. If you see the contacts are very black or even not there then you definitely have to replace the pressure switch.
  2. The contacts weld together and keep the pump on continuously. Sometimes after getting worn and dirty the contacts on the well pressure switch will just stick right together and not release when the pressure builds and then the pump will not shut off. Even if you can release them with a screw driver, after turning the power off of coarse, they will just do it again, replace the pump switch.
  3. Dirt will sometimes plug up the little pipe nipple that goes down from the bottom of the well tank pressure switch and delay the action of the well pump. This can happen even on shallow or deep well pump that have the pressure switch mounted right on them or sense pressure through a small plastic tube. Take everything apart and clean out so that the water pressure to the pressure switch is accurate.

This should give you a basic guide to the common problems you may experience with your water well pressure switch.

Also note that some well pressure switches have a small lever on the side that will need to be held up for a minute or so to start the well pump. This is a low water cut off protection device that will keep the well pump off if it runs out of water in the well or if it loses prime for some reason. Hold the lever up part way for a bit till pressure starts to build in the well pump pressure tank and then it can be released.

Working pressure


Putting 60 lbs. of pressure in the pressure tank is not the answer.

First determine that the pump is working correctly, Open the drain valve and see if you get a good flow of water. If you do then OK, the pump is working. If you are not getting a good water flow from the drain valve, then the pump is not operating correctly - maybe a bad foot valve. Next open the drain valve and watch the water pressure gauge, and note at what pressure the pump kicks on ( that's the cut-in pressure), and when it kicks off ( that's the cut-out pressure). Most pumps are set to operate at 20-40 psi, or 30-50 psi. The cut-in and cut-out pressure is set by the water pressure switch.The pressure in the water tank has to be set 2 psi BELOW the cut-in pressure of the pump. That is, if the pump has a 20-40 psi differential, then the tank has to be pre-charged to 18 psi.

To pre- charge the pressure tank , the pump has to be shut off. The Tank needs to be emptied (drained ) of water. The air pressure is then set to 2 psi BELOW the cut-in pressure. If water escapes from the air valve, the bladder in the tank is ruptured, and a new tank needs to be installed.

So, first make sure the pump is working.
I WOULD RELIEVE MOST OF THE PRESSURE IN THE PRESSURE TANK TO ABOUT 20 PSI BEFORE CHECKING THE PUMP, AND PRCEEDING WITH THE PRE-CHARGE OF THE TANK.

My low pressure fuel pump on my e270cdi cut out under high load conditions.no pressure from the rear.all fault codes tell me the rail pressure is to low


Fuel pump relay is in cavity A in the rear SAM ( Signal Acquisition Module.) on the left hand side of the trunk behind a door.

When did you check the voltage..... you must read it while cranking or you will get a zero voltage reading.. The low pressure tank pump builds pressure to the high pressure pump and then shuts down until a pressure drop is sensed in the low pressure line and it then starts up again.

If rail pressure is too low, it often is the high pressure pump in the engine or the relief valve in the fuel rail. The tank pump is low pressure just to stop the tandem pump from cavitating by sucking too hard.

Mercedes can check the rail pressure and do an injector pressure drop to rule out a leaking injector.

If the tank pump is bad it will require replacement.

Steps replacing a 1985 grand marquis fuel pump for first time alone thanks


See Figure 1
Two different electric fuel pump configurations were used on fuel injected models. One consists of a low pressure in-tank boost pump in conjunction with an external, frame-mounted high pressure pump. The low pressure pump is used to provide pressurized fuel to the inlet of the high pressure pump and helps prevent noise and heating problems. System pressure is controlled by a pressure regulator mounted on the engine.
The other configuration consists of an in-tank high pressure pump which does not utilize a boost pump.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

In-Tank Pump
See Figures 2, 3 and 4

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Depressurize the system and drain as much gas from the tank by pumping out through the filler neck.
  3. Raise and support the rear end on jackstands.
  4. Disconnect the fuel supply, return and vent lines at the right and left side of the frame.
  5. Disconnect the wiring to the fuel pump.

  1. Support the gas tank, loosen and remove the mounting straps. Remove the gas tank.
  2. Disconnect the lines and harness at the pump flange.
  3. Clean the outside of the mounting flange and retaining ring. Turn the fuel pump lock ring counterclockwise and remove.
  4. Remove the fuel pump.

To install:
  1. Clean the mounting surfaces. Put a light coat of grease on the mounting surfaces and on the new sealing ring. Install the new fuel pump.
  2. Installation is in the reverse order of removal. Start the vehicle and check electric fuel pump operation. Check for fuel leaks.

High Pressure External Pump
See Figure 5
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Depressurize the fuel system.
  3. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle on jackstands.
  4. Disconnect the inlet and outlet fuel lines.
  5. Detach the electrical harness connection.
  6. Bend down the retaining tab and remove the pump from the mounting bracket ring.
  7. Install in reverse order. Make sure the pump is indexed correctly in the mounting bracket insulator. Start the vehicle and check electric fuel pump operation. Check for fuel leaks.

I had a water line bust. After fixing the leak, I lost water pressure. Someone tried to fix the problem and now we have little to no water flow. I have to pumps . The smaller pump that feeds the house is...


The nut on the larger spring in the pump pressure switch: Usually the larger nut in the pump pressure control switch adjusts the pump cut-on ("cut-in") AND pump cut-off pressures simultaneously. This is the left-hand spring (and nut) in our photo. That means that whatever the gap is between the cut-on pressure and the cut-off pressure, that gap is maintained, but the entire operating range of the pump is raised or lowered. Turning the large nut clockwise RAISES BOTH the cut-on and cut-off pressures. So turning the large nut clockwise shifts the whole operating pressure range of the pump UP to HIGHER pressures.
Conversely, turning the large nut counter-clockwise will lower the whole pump operating range. This is the simplest adjustment to make.

Turning the small nut clockwise (tighter) will RAISE the CUT-OFF pressure, and vice versa, loosening or turning the nut counter-clockwise will lower the cut-off pressure. Watch out! If you loosen this nut too much you can set the cut-off pressure below the cut-on pressure and the pump will turn on and run forever (or until it burns up.)
Which nut to turn in the pump pressure switch control, and which direction to turn it, are usually visible on a label inside the pressure switch cover. Above we show photos of a common Square D water pump pressure control switch (Schneider Electric) and the label with pump control adjustment details. [Click to enlarge].
Here are Example Pump Pressure Switch Adjustment Instructions from Square -D Understanding how pump pressure control switches work and which way to turn which of the two nuts in the control can be confusing.
On a Square-D Pumptrol® 9013FSF-2 pump pressure switch, for example, Square D tells us that we
  • Turn the Range Nut #1 (the larger spring and nut) clockwise (to the right or "down") to raise [both] cut-on and cut-off pressures. This is "tightening the nut down" against the spring. ("Rightie-tightie, leftie-loosie" as Mara Gieseke says to her kids). Thanks to reader Rise for this clarification.

    In other words, adjusting the pressure on this spring shifts the whole operating range of the switch up or down, but keeps the difference between cut-in and cut-out the same, whatever it happens to be (typically it's about 20 psi from the factory.)

    If you want the pump to turn ON (cut-in) sooner
    , that is, at a higher water pressure, turn the nut clockwise or "tighter".

    If you want the water pump to turn ON (cut-in) later, that is, at a lower water pressure, turn the nut counterclockwise or "looser".

  • Turn the Differential Nut #2 (the smaller spring and nut) clockwise to raise the cut-out pressure.

    If you want the water pump to turn OFF (cut out or cut-off) at a higher water pressure, turn this nut clockwise or "tighter".

    If you want the water pump to turn OFF (cut out or cut-off) at a lower water pressure, turn this nut counter clockwise or "looser"

Problem with Convertible Jet Pump 3/4HP RedLion - drawing water 300' from lake to cabin - when the pump is on it holds 50# pressure by itself but when tap is turned on the pressure drops to 30# then you...


If I understand you correctly this is what you have:

- A pump that draws water from a lake 300 feet from lake to your cabin (I assume the pump is at the cabin)

- The pump kicks on to maintain pressure in a tank that distributes water to faucets in the cabin. The pump only turns on to pressurize the tank when water is being used (I am assuming).

- When you turn on tap, pressure in the pressure tank drops to 30 psi, then you hear water sucking from the tank to tap and flow stops at tap. Then the pump finally kicks back on and pressures tank to 23 psi.

- The pump is not used regularly.

If water flow stops when the pressure tank is reading 25 psi, then likely the real pressure is 0 psi and pressure gauge is reading wrong. If this gauge is tied into a switch that starts and stops the pump, then this is probably your problem. You may have partial blockage in your pressure gauge/switch that is causing gauge to move too slowly to keep up with the actual pressure changes when water is being used. Ore the pressure gauge/switch may be broken. Pressure gauges are notorious for reading pressure when there is none. If you can unplug the pump and disconnect the pressure gauge/switch and check for blockage in the ports you should start there. You mentioned that this worked good for the last two summers, if if sits unused for long periods, it could promote bio-growth, rust and/or sediment in the connection to the pressure gauge. If you find blockage, remove it and flush it out. Reinstall the pressure gauge/switch and try it again.

One other possibility is clogged strainer(s) / filter(s) in the water lines. It would not hurt to pull and check/clean any strainers / filters in the system including before the pump. I would even check at the lake for a strainer where the water enters the suction line to the cabin.


I would not assume that the pump is the problem yet.

Anytime the pump is running, there should be charge pump pressure present. When the pump is in nuetral, the hot oil shuttle will usually block flow, so the the charge pump builds up pressure untill the charge pump relief opens up, the pressure setting this occurs at depends on the what the OEM wanted. When the pump strokes up, there is a pressure differential between the two work ports, which shifts the hot oil shuttle spool, allowing oil to flow across the hot oil shuttle relief valve which will have a lower setting than the charge pump relief. So in Nuetral you will generally have a higher charge pump pressure and when on stroke, you will see charge pump pressure drop 50 to 100 psi.
