It can, especially if you do not have an optical device connected to it. You should consult your manual to ensure the unit is properly connected and operated. If you do not have your manual, please Google search manufacturer make, model and the word manual. If one is available, you will find it in the search results.

If you can provide the manufacturer make and model information in your next question, perhaps the volunteer Fixya experts can provide more assistance.

How to hook up sound bar. Where are the audio out jacks?

after looking into the TC-p42u2 i noticed it does Not have audio out put in form of RCA instead this model uses Digital Audio out, this connection is located to the lower left of your Antenna and to the right of your Video In 1 ports... you will need a Optical Cable and an analog to digital converter to connect your sound system if it does not have ability to accept digital. My tv has same issue and i have to use something like this analog to digital converter

I just bought a LG blue tooth capable surround sound. The instructions say I need to hook the cord to the optical in connection, but my tv doesn't have it. Is there an adapter I can get?

If your tv does not have an optical audio output you can get an analog to optical adaptor. Radio shack . Ebay , do a google search. Check your sound bar for an analog input. Hope this helps.

I have audio cables going from HD 61g887 jvc tv, to my phillips surround sound system under aux but it is not giving me sound?

hi
you didn't mentioned the model number of your surround sound system, for a better solution its important. any why try the following.

if you are connected the analog audio output of your tv to the system using RCA cable, then go to the setup of the surround sound system and change the input assignment setting from digital to analog.
If your connected the digital output of your tv to the digital input of your surround system using optical cable then, goto the setup of your surround system and change the input assignment to digital (optical) input.

Need help connecting to surround sound to a vizio sound bar

hi,
did u mean connecting the sound bar to ur tv.
u didn't mentioned the model number of ur sound bar.
any how ur tv has only coaxial digital audio out. no analog audio out. the sound bar may have one digital audio input (optical digital input) and 2 analog inputs. if it has coaxial input it may be very easy.find is there, if not u cant link these devices.
if u are using a satellite receiver then u can connect the optical audio out to ur sound bar's optical input or the analog audio output to any one of the analog audio input.
ok

Yamaha rx-v365 plugged in the hdmi from cable box

You have to configure your DTV input to use optical audio instead of analog dtv audio (red/white plugs). Input assignment should be described in the manual. Come back to me if you have still problems with it.

sometimes with cable, satellite, or any dvr, the digital signal actually is intermittent and there is little we can do about it but add an analog audio connection for each device as a backup. per se, and put the receiver in auto input mode. the receiver will utilize the analog signal to fill in where the digital signal fails
good luck

On our Durabrand DVD/Vcr Combo, I get picture, but no sound..I'm using a S video as conectors!

S video connector is used only for video, you need to connect the audio separately via the RCA audio connectors or via digital coaxial or optical connector.

You can read more on S video standard here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video

Also see the related topics on audio, maybe you should consult the user manuals for your dvd unit and the amplifier that you use to get more info, but normally the sound can be connected via these connectors on the rear panel of dvd units:

- main left and right analog signal out RCA connectors (2 channel stereo signal - amplifier set to analog signal)

- main left and right, sub, center, surround left and right analog signal out connectors (multichannel surround signal - amplifier set to analog signal)

- coaxial digital signal out RCA connector (a single cable that takes the stereo or surround signal to the amplifier in a coded digital form - you need to set the amplifier to the digital signal mode to enable this kind of signal)

- optical digital signal out connector (same as the coaxial digital output, the difference is that the signal is in the form of light pulses instead of electrical pulses - the amplifier should be set to the digital signal mode as well)

Hope this helps somehow - if it doesn't, post me some feedback, perhaps a brief description of the units that you want to interconnect...

regards

Optical audio from cable box to receiver

Do you mean the optical digital audio output from the cable box? This is so you can listen to Digital sound from cable tv broadcast, First go to the cable box remote control, select setup or menu to find audio, then select audio output, check digital audio, not mts or stereo, this should enable to optical output instead of the typical 2 channel red and white left and right RCA analog audio outputs, sometimes different cable boxes vary, but most require you to enable the optical output via the method listed above.

No digtal audio with fiber optic jack

hook up a digital audio coaxial cable to it (not the old ones with the pin in the middle that always bends, the new one that looks like an rca cable except its orange instead of red/white/yellow). If it still doesnt play sound then your receiver is probably in analog mode. If it does play sound then its the fiber optic input.
