Question about Roland Music

1 Answer

My Roland KR 4500 powers up to a blank screen, no button led. No key sound.Power led is lit. Amp and speakers work fine with external sound input.

I can't run any board diognostics as no functions are working at all. No obvious internal signs. Everything looks mint. Fuses ok. It's a mystery.

My Roland FP8 plays very quietly through its own speakers, through an external amp & speaker and through the earphones. There is a hissing/crackling/static sound too from the speakers. Anyone

A number if things can be wrong with it, from the audil preamp to the the audio amplifier. Even as simple as a bad volume control. Does the actual noise change patterns when you move the volume?

The Clip LED on Channel 1 of my SA220 is on continuously even with nothing plugged in the XLR or 1/4 inch inputs. Not getting amplification when inputs are used. Why?

That light is showing that there is power to amp in that speaker but there is something wrong with the amp or the speaker inside and nothing is coming out. You will have to troubleshoot the amp and check the resistance of the speaker to see what the problem is.

Can you please tell me the best amp that I can use to hook up a Roland SPD 30, I'm looking for one to get volume. ( loud ).

Hi, With my sound engineers hat on I would use a small PA. mixer, amp and speakers!!!!
For quality you need a full, flat frequency range system with good headroom.
I assume this is for your own listening, when using an acoustic kit?
There are one box solutions.
  1. Drum amps. Like a monitor wedge with an amp, Roland do a PM-10, Various other makes are available.
  2. General purpose powered wedge.
  3. Keyboard Amp, these are full range and available in various sizes.
  4. Bass amp with high frequency driver (tweeter), not the best but will have good bottom end.
  5. Powered or active speaker, much like a powered wedge, but a different shape, needs an input volume control.
All these systems need to have large bass units, 10 inch minimum, and will be in mono. Two will give you stereo,
How loud depends primarily on the sensitivity of the speaker. But manufactures insist on selling things by power. Worth looking this up.
At a couple of feet away, 20 watts should do it, with high sensitivity speakers, more likely you find most things as above start at about 70 Watts.
Good luck, I hope I have widened you choices a bit.
All the best, Chris the Fader.

No sound coming out of my mackie

Whether you are experienced in electronics repair?
if not, try this simply way:
1: Test whether the power amplifier is still working. See figure 1.
Power OFF,adjust the EQ settings as shown in the picture.
Minimize LEVEL.Switch ON Power. Touch pin 3 at the INPUT socket by using a small screwdriver or piece of wire / cable.
Slowly raise the LEVEL,a little bit only (as the clock showed 7-8) until
sound is heard in speaker. If not heard, slowly raise again LEVEL.
If audio input signal is heard,it can simply be taken to mean
that the amplifier is working.
If LEVEL at 9 o'clock position, and the audio is not heard,
the possibility of the amplifier is damaged.
Switch OFF the power. Take it to a repair place.

2: When the Power LED is lit, but no sound,
There are many possible causes, one of which is:
I have been getting 3 times similar cases, and all are caused by
two Rectifier-Diode (either or both.) damage on the power-supply-unit.
Remove/desolder,measure, if damaged replace it with a new one.
See figure 2-3.

Replace broken hammer key on roland kr 575

I've actually repaired two broken hammer keys on my Roland KR-575, after paying $250 (TWICE) for a repairman to come to my house and fix two other keys.
The repair I completed was about four of five years ago. I searched the internet and found great instructions to print out. Unfortunately, I can't find them again. HOWEVER, I did find this video: Roland Keyboard Repair. It shows you the hardest thing about the repair - how to take the cover(s) off to get to the keys! The video is not as detailed as the instructions I used before - but pretty good. The parts cost me about $25.

Unfortunately (for me) I have yet another key to fix now. This time I will take pictures and notes and update here with my results. It might take several weeks though (I'm trying to finish a big school project). In the mean time, try the video. I don't recommend trying super-glue like the video says, but sometimes finding parts is difficult, so I guess that might be an option if you couldn't get the parts easily. I just don't think a weight repaired with super glue will last very long.

Here are a few suggestions to find the parts you will need:
My other advice is to keep careful track of all the different screws you take out - and away from kids, grandkids, and pets - so you can put them back in the right place after your key repair is finished. (The screws that is ;)

My frontman 15r has power but no sound

Check to make sure the problem is not with the headphone jack or the external speaker jack as these are in the circuit between the power amp chip and the built in speaker.

You can also trace through the circuit with a music source on the amp input and with simple headphones check the signal path through the circuit until the music disappears. To do this, take a headphone and set it up with 2 test leads on the ends- attach one to ground.

Now your TL072 op amps have 2 outputs, pin1 and pin 7. The inputs for pin 1 are pins 2 and 3, and the inputs for the amp section outputing on pin 7 are pin 5 and pin 6. If you get sound at pin 1 or pin 7, you move forward to the next TL072. Check for output. Then move to the power amp chip on the heat sink. Pin 1 should be the output and will be wired to the headphone jack first. The external speaker jack second and the built in speaker third. The input for that power amplifier chip is pin 7 or pin 8 depending how it is wired.

If the amp chip is blown, make sure to put an adequate amount of thermal grease on the back side of the IC in contact with the heat sink so it can operate as cool as possible.

I have a Roland E-70 Intelligent Synthesizer, buit the manual does not give instructions on how do transposition. I need to transpose the instrument to play a music in a lower key. For example, when I...

section 7 page 89 of the E-70 manual I downloaded from http://www.rolandus.com/support/owners_manuals/?group=2
describes the use of the transpose button.

In short, you set the value for the transpose function in the parameter menu (section 9 in the manual) ranging from -11 to +11 semitones.

In your case I would set the value for the tranpose button in the menu to minus 2 as you want a full note (= 2 semitones) down from C to B-flat and G to F etc.

And you activate or deactivate the transpose function itself by hitting the transpose button. The little red led next to the button shows whether the function is on (led is lit) or off (led is not lit).

Hope this helps

Behringer europower pmp1000, mixer unit, has all leds lit ,is responding to mic. input, bur is not producing any ourput to speakers, can you advise please.

ALL LED's should NOT be lit all the time. If thsy are, there is a failure in the power supply.

plug headphones into the 1/4 inch main output jacks on the top... you will only hear sound in the left side headphone for each. This would verify the preamp is working.
