The door 'interlock' has failed

it heats up to seal a door
when it cools down it opens
{either a bimetal switch and coil or a thermister and coil}
replace the door interlock
two screws and a plug ...

method
isolate mains supply and water
open the door
take the top off {slide two screws}
take the two screws out of the door catch machine side
reach down and unclip the interlock
pull the plug
put a new one
and replace the screws
check the door catches ok
if so
plug it in
place it to drain and spin
one the spin completes your sorted
and its a common fault

Light flashing won start

Common error with front loaders is the door interlock. Make sure the door is positively closed. A gentle open hand push at the erea of the door lock often gets a machine started.

Whirlpool washer won't start. Not a water problem. Door lock lift on or at times flashing. Think it's something to do with the door or panel.

At the right end of your panel you will find the 'end of cycle' symbol, to unlock keep this depressed for 3 seconds, this is the child lock feature. You do it again, and the machine locks.

Cannot get rid of the lock symbol and it won't start even b4 the symbol appeared?

This sounds like a faulty door lock switch or a faulty main electronic logic board.When the door lock switch is faulty or opened it pauses the main board to allow the machine to stop working without switching off completely so that you don't lose the cycle when opening the door during a wash.But there should be a button to push to release the door lock when starting up the machine.if that doesen't work then there is a breakdown of communication from the door lock switch to the main logic board and visa versa if the board is faulty.If your machine is more than five years old then those two problems are the most common in those machines. Have a technician check it out.

My son put a load of laundry in and forgot the hot water heater was broke when he turned the machine on. It wouldn't run and the door is still locked. We tried unplugging it, holding the cancel butt

Remove the lower panel by taking out the screws at the bottom. Unplug washer. Then reach up inside to the bottom of the door switch and pull down on lever to unlatch the door. Try running machine again after plugging back in.
