Your IAC motor may be clogged or stuck the, Idle Air Control motor sets the idle speed after the engine has met operating temperature, the IAC motor is usually on the top of the intake plenum, you can take it apart and see if its clogged or not operating

First thing I would look for is a broken small vacume hose or a hole in one.... saw one guy use a spray bottle of just water around the hoses and when water was sucked in the RPM changed... Hence you find the broken hose...

Idles high from first to second gear .

Define idles high like its going high rpms before shifting or the engine itself is high reving if its high rpming when shifting its mostly you tranny going out you can try tranny fix oil I used it on my truck when it had shifting problems and ive had no problems since it takes a few days to work though and if its the motor itself it could be a lot of things but I dont know much of the problem based on what you told us

Wont shift from nutral in to gear while running

Often, it mean that the clutch stay engage.
Now the question can be, is the idle to high for the clutch to disengage while at idle? you might try to reduce the idle speed by turning eather the nob on carburator or the ajustement on the cable.

then if the idle is very low and the clutch still engage (that is why you can not shift) you migh want to check at the clutch and see if it is not stuck.

My car jumps off when i select the D gear is this a major gearbox problem?

sounds more like a high idle problem to me.

Your tranny should have some "floating" when you shift to any gear, but if you are idled up too high then that "floating" disappears and it jumps.

I would check you idle before you think about tranny problems.
