Can HP Model 5189 keyboard be used with a Laptop ?

Is the plug round? If so, your laptop may not have a socket for it. If the plug is kind of flat, then the laptop should work fine with it. The flat plug is called, "USB", the round one, "PS2"

I can no longer turn it on. Why?

Two things that we seriously consider, one is that if the lights on the keyboard is lit? Normally, when you turn on the laptop, lights on the keyboard lit so that the motherboard which is inside of your laptop will generate the necessary circuitry for your pc. Second is that if the monitor turns it on . Well we can diagnose your request, make sure you turn off the laptop and remove the cables and battery to it . Then press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Then reinsert the cables and battery on your laptop and turn on the laptop. Observe it very closely. If the lights on the keyboard did not lit, then there is a problem with the motherboard. For that, you need to call HP and set an appointment with a technician to replace the motherboard. Otherwise if it is lit (keyboard), then check if the monitor is on. If the screen is off, then there is a problem with the video card which is also inside of your laptop. If you dont know how to remove and reinsert it back, then call a technician. If you know, then try to reseat the video card. If the symptom persist, then call HP to replace your video card.

Need to replace keyboard

Hi,
I don't recommend to replace the laptop keyboard if you are not very familiar with hardware, though step by step instruction are available in net.
First check whether your laptop is still covered under warranty. If so, search the authorised service provider of your laptop model near to your place. And get the keyboard replaced by them. Sometimes you'll get it for free, if it is manufacturing defect.
Please come back and rate my solution if this turns to be helpful for you or also if you need more clarification. Thnx

Dell Studio 17 laptop : keyboard response sporadic.

Possibly a failed keyboard (was there a liquid spill?), loose keyboard cable or failed system board. Call Dell support, if your warranty is expired keyboard should be about $40-75, system board can be $200-600 depending on model and availiability of the part.

Keys coming off my HP Pavilion 5000 laptop

I'm afraid that if the keys "keep coming off" then the very small bits of plastic that keep them down have permanently broken (very common) and that you must replace the keyboard. Page 5-28 of this document from HP explains how to replace the keyboard of that model.

I need the new key board, for my lap top

Keyboard replacement for a laptop is not quite as easy as a desktop computer, but it is not difficult either. I would need to know what kind of laptop it is, and you would have to purchase this new keyboard from the manufacturer of the laptop. If you already have the new keyboard, please reply, and I will try to walk you thru the replacement.
