Washer LAT9206BAE I have a washer that makes a grinding sound when it agitates. I noticed that the agitator will sometimes come up from bottom, and I have just pushed it back down firmly and it would work fine. But now, when I try to wash clothes, it makes a really loading grinding noise. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sherry G

jason,it sounds like your agitator dogs are worn out.you can try just the dogs,part#80040 for about 3 bucks or do the cam kit part#285811 for about20.appliance parts pros.com has a video to help you find the right part for you.hope this helps.

I see that you are hearing a grinding noise before the spin cycle in your Frigidaire washer, model# GLET1031CS0. A certain amount of "grinding" or gear sounds are normal in a heavy-duty washer. You will need to replace the drive block.

There is no filter. You may have something that is hung up under the agitator. To remove the agitator, remove the fabric softener cup, then the bolt that holds the agitator on and lift the agitator out.

My Maytag Performa makes a grinding sound when it agitates. When it starts to dump the water it makes a loud grinding on metal sound... really loud. What is the problem and how much to fix?

this probem is caused by defective bearings, u will need to pull the washer apart and have the bearing checked by a professional for excessive wear, one of them is worn, most likely the agitator shaft bearing. i will advise u that the cost of repair may exceed the cost of a new washer. here is the basic instructions for teardown. go to the link.

Does the bottom of your agitator work correctly? We had the same problem if you pop the cap off the top of your agitator there is a cam in there with 3 dogs that engage the agitator causing it to spin. If the bottom part is agitating correctly then chances are the dogs in the cam assembly are shot. If the bottom is agitating correctly then it is very possible you have something stuck under the bottom section of the agitator. If this is the case remove the top cover (same as before it's just a lid that pops off) inside you will see a 1/2" square use a 1/2" drive ratchet with a 3" or 6" extension unscrew this piece remove the top section of the agitator then the bottom. Once the bottom is out check to make sure all is clear inside the washer. Reassemble in the reverse order making sure the lower section sits all the way down on the splines for the drive mechanism. If neither one of those solve the problem I would suspect you have an issue in the drive train of the washer.

Well, Sounds to me like the Bearings are going out, but it could make that noise a good while, before it goes completely out.. Replacement would possably be more cost effective, Kinda hard to beleive !!!!!!

Take front off and watch while it agitating useing a good light and see if you can tell where the noise is coming from
