Question about Vizio Televison & Video
Comment: I have a Vizio, Mod# E480I-B2 that is a source of frustration. If needed, here is the SN# LWZQPODQ2106565. When it works it is simply phenomenal, however it will not function on a regular basis. I have tried all of the reset hints and I've gotten nowhere. Is there a part that can be replaced to bring this thing back to life? Currently it is an attractive piece of plastic. Any help and insight would be very much appreciated. I purchased the TV in December 2014, it worked beautifully for about a week. The purchased was made online and will not bad mouth the company at this point...I'm really tired of thinking about them...maybe later. If I can get it to come on, everything is wonderful until it is powered off. At that point it will power up but will only show the dreaded "V" logo. It cannot be powered down or controlled in any way. Unplugging is the only option I have found. I have tried the hard reset 30 or 40 times with no luck. If the TV sits for approx. 7 to 10 days (yes days) it will power up and once again work beautifully. However, it will at some point power itself down and it's dead again. I've managed to keep it going for a couple of days by turning the cable box off and keeping the TV powered up. It will work for awhile but will once again go into hibernation. Surely this is not the only one with this type of symptoms. I truly hope you can help me find an answer before this thing becomes a stationary target at the closest gun range. Thanks in advance for your help! Kyle Revercomb
Sounds like the flash memory has an error for the basic routine on power-up. This could be a faulty program write, error of the bios chip set or a bad memory capacitor if present. I think the cap is there as you have to power the set off for several days so it bleeds off.
Many electronics have a 'house' program for each TV set for the unit to run from start up. Not sure if there is an easy cure as the EEProm may have to be re-flashed. The start up program may have an error and with out a reset button this may have no solution.
I would suggest when it doea power up correctly, power it down and unplug for several days, then restart it.... do this several times and the re-boot may correct the fault.

SOURCE: Black showing as red on LCD
this is a LVDS cable issue. All you have to do is call Vizio and they will send out a tech and replace the LVDS cable along with the Main Board. This should resolve the pixilation issue.

I have a solution. My Samsung plasma had the same problem with the bottom half of the screen being black. Follow these directions and it will not cost you a dime, just some time. I took the back panel of the tv. I found the lower buffer board on the left hand side. I disconnect all the ribbon cables. Use an air cleaner to spray out any dust on the ribbon connection and the board. I connect the ribbons back to the board. My plasma is now as good as new. If you have issue with the top portion, do the same with the upper buffer board. I was going to buy a new tv but I'm glad I gave this a shot first. It's been almost a month and it's still working fine. Hope this helps and hope it saves you some money.
