Not Sharing pc for win 7

It may be because of the workgroup setting. WINXP uses a default workgroup value of MSHOME. WIN7 uses a default of WORKGROUP. What happens then is that all computers can connect to the network and access the internet, but shared files and folders will not be seen due to the two different workgroups,

To change the workgroup in WIN 7:

Click START.

Right click on COMPUTER, choose PROPERTIES.

In the SYSTEM window, choose ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS

in the SYSTEM PROPERTIES window choose the COMPUTER NAME tab.

Observe "Workgroup" name.
To change, click the CHANGE button

Put the new workgroup name in the WORKGROUP block
(WINXP default is MSHOME)

Click OK

Close all windows

You will need to restart PC to set the new workgroup

How to I set up my dell laptop in my house to print wirelessly from a canon mp780 printer?

Basicallyif you have a wireless router with several laptops and desktop PCs, which canaccess the Internet at the same time, then you have working network withthe laptop and PC.First makesure the laptop and PC have the same Workgroup name(it may already have Workgroup as the Workgroup name, you can change it if you wish). To changethe Workgroup name open Control Panel - System -click on Computer Name tab - click Change and you can change the Computername then select Workgroup and enter orchange the Workgroup name - click OK and OKagain.Nextenable Sharing on both the PC and laptop open My Computer - right click onthe C Drive - click on Sharing tab - tick Sharing this folder on thenetwork - add a Share name to identify the computer/folder (eg Cdrive on PC).If you donot enable sharing on the drives or folders then they will not be available tothe computers on the network. If you havemore drives, then repeat this for the other hard drive and or CD or DVDdrives.Re-boot thecomputers and you will be able to see the computers on your network through MyNetwork Places.

Conect to another laptop

To Connect Directly without any other devices

Firstly you need a network crossover cable. Available from most computer stores. This is a special type of cable (not a standard LAN cable)

Secondly Make sure both computers are on the same workgroup. TO do this Right click on My computer, Properties, go to the Computer Name Tab, See what is written in Workgroup. Change one computer by clicking on change and then type in the name of the other computer in the workgroup space down the bottom. Do not make the computer part of a domain. You want Workgroup.

This name change will require a computer reboot.

When both computers are on the same workgroup, we need to set IP Addresses.

In Control Panel, Open Network Settings.
Right click on Local Area Connections and select properties.

Under the heading "This connection uses the following items, Find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Highlight it, Make sure you don't untick the box, and click on properties
Under the heading Use the following IP Address ENter in the Following on ONE Computer.

IP Address 192.168.0.10
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway LEave Blank

Under the Heading Obtain DNS Serveraddress automatically
Set this to Automatic. Don't enter anything in.

On the second computer Make the IP Address 192.168.0.20
Everything else the same.

This should be all.

File sharing isn't happening

You need to go to control panel and into system, Click on teh Computer name tab and give each computer it's own name if it doesn't have one already. Then click on the change button and give your workgroup a name. Make all computers part of the same workgroup.

Make sure the workgroup name matches for all your computers. The other computers are probably set to mshome and the acer to workgroup.

Microsoft Broadband Networking Setup Wizard does not start

CAUSE This issue may occur when the Network ID setting on your computer is configured with a workgroup name that contains a special character--for example, a period. A workgroup name can contain up to 15 characters, including letters, numbers, and the following characters:! @ # $ % ^ & ( ) _ - ; : ' " ,. It cannot contain any spaces, and must start with a letter or a number. The NetBiosName class considers the majority of those special characters as invalid so the problem may occur if the workgroup name contains other characters besides the period. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, change the workgroup name to something that does not contain special characters. To do this, follow these steps. Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. Note Follow these steps on all computers that are in your workgroup. 1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. 2. In the System Properties tab, click the Computer Name tab, and then click Change. 3. Under Member of, click Workgroup, and then type a name for your workgroup that does not contain any special characters. 4. Click OK, and then restart your computer.
