Threading may be incorrect or bobbin has not grasped the thread end well enough. Wind a little on manually when you first start, just to get it gripping tightly

I have trouble winding the bobbin. For some reason it starts winding it below the bobbin.

Verify that you are threading it properly for bobbin winding. Perhaps the bobbin winder height needs to be adjusted. If you continue to have problems (which I frequently have with some of my machines), I simply use a pencil or a skewer to raise the thread as it is winding on the bobbin.

The bobbin won't wind, do you know what my problem is?

It is difficult to diagnose without knowing the machine brand and model.

Consult your manual and verify that you are properly following all the steps and threading the machine properly to wind the bobbin.

If you still are unable to wind a bobbin, you can pick up a stand-alone bobbin winder (one brand name is Sidewinder) sometimes available at fabric stores, ie Hancock's, JoAnn's, or Amazon for about $25.

Tangled thread after winding new bobbin

Try winding it the opposite way you are doing it now in regards speed. If you are winding it on full speed, try winding the bobbin slower. If you are winding it slow, try faster. Also check that the thread is threading properly and is not catching somewhere, and also that the tension is correct. Finally, test with a thread that you have not experienced problems before.

My Janome 3018 will not wind a nice tight bobbin. They are loose and spongy. This machine is brand new. I have double checked that it is threaded properly and the thread is in the correct place and

You are not exactly threading the machine when you wind the bobbin. So follow the directions for winding the bobbin, make sure the thread fits under the little revolving wheel, and make sure that the stitch part of the machine is disengaged.

The machine will not turn the spindle to wind cotton onto the bobbin.

What model Bernina is it? Most operate on a simple system where a rubber wheel on the bobbin winder comes into contact with the handwheel (under the cover) ... the handwheel is disengaged so the needle has no drive.......

Bobbin not winding tightly

Consult your owner's manual. Possibly, you are not threading the bobbin winder correctly. The thread does go through a tensioner somewhere along the way that creates tension on the thread.

Or perhaps the tensioner is not working properly.

If neither is problem, then you can always pick up a stand-alone bobbin winder (Amazon, JoAnn's, etc) for ~$30. One brand is called Sidewinder. These bobbin winders are marvelous because you can wind bobbins without unthreading your machine. It also saves wear and tear on your machine.

Or take your machine for service.

Bobbin thread keeps knotting

1. Do you mean that there are knots in the bobbin thread?
2. Is the bottom thread in your stitching looping and knotting.

If yes to 1. you need to rewind your bobbin fresh, and keep slight tension on the thread reel that you are winding it from. Put the handle of your scissors into the top of the reel to apply a gentle pressure while winding. Keep your eye on the bobbin as it winds and give it a nudge with a finger tip to ensure it winds the bobbin evenly top, middle and bottom.

If yes to 2, then you need to check your bobbin threading, is the thread even under tension. Is the bobbin tension set correctly. Break out your manual and revisit this to ensure it is set correctly.

Singer 7444 trouble winding bobbin

It sounds like you don't have any tension on the thread when winding the bobbin. Make sure that you are running the thread through the tension disc on the top of the machine before going to the bobbin winder.
