I feed Danby dishwasher salt whenever he asks (buy it by the case online). Still produces marginally clean dishes.

Salt light stays on all the time -salt is full

The sensor that detects the salt level is faulty, it shouldn't affect the actual operation of the dishwasher though.

Baumatic BD1631 dishwasher isn't washing the top tray. The rotating sprays are clear and hoses appear ok. The 'salt needed' warning light is on even though I've filled it with salt. Any ideas?

Try rotating the arm manually. Check whether its freely rotating. Clean the rotating axis area.

Check whether the pressure reaching the top spray arm hose.

AQUARIUS FDW60. THA FAST AND DELICATE LIGHTS KEEP FLASHING.

I had the same problem with my Hotpoint FDW60 and read all the online reviews about how baddly made the FDW60 is and after taking it apart I totally agree.

As the warning lights were indicating a faulty heating element I checked it to find that it was not working. I bought a replacement for £43 at my local electrical store (I think they then ordered it online). Taking the bottom off is easy but once off, it is very difficult to actually get to the element, but it can be done. I had to buy new hose clips to fasten the rubber pipe each side too. It has been on twice today and so far so good.

I have read some message boards and have seen that some people have had to replace the element a number of times, so I will wait and see what happens.

Be aware the heating element is not your usual heating element, it looks more like a insulated metal tube: http://www.buyspares.co.uk/cgi-bin/search.pl?query=heating+element+fdw60

Good luck

Salt not working through into the system

Salt will sometimes "bridge up" at the bottom of the tank.
Sometimes a "soft" persuasion to break up the bridge is required to get the salt to settle down where the water will dissolve it.
I generaaly use a rubber mallet to lightly tap on the outside of the salt tank. If successful, you can hear the salt bridge break up and fall to the bottom and the salt above will start to settle also. Once the salt has settled and it is using the salt, then keep the reservoir full to keep other bridging from forming.
If you are unable to break up the bridge, then the unit may have to disconnected and harsher means used to break up the bridge.
I would recommend that a technician perform this task.

HELP WITH NON FUNCTIONING DISHWASHER

similar problems here, repair man says its fine but the salt light was on so i added salt and works ok now. Some dishwashers don't function properly without the salt and rinse aid, even though you're pills may have then included, you still have to add them seperately, dumb but necessary at times.

Salt Indicator Light Flashes Permanently On Indesit IDE 750 dishwasher

I think I have the answer.

On Yahoo Answers Blue Rizla Girl put up the idea that the sensor is some form of hydrometer. (i.e. floats in salty water sinks if not salty enough)

Based on this thought I postulated that the sensor is some form of hydrometer float in a tube with perhaps an optical sensor.

If this is correct why is it not working?

Is it because the float is stuck at the bottom of the tube, perhaps by some food debris? If so how can we fix it?

This is what I did on my Hotpoint FWD60:-

I took the salt filler cap off. There was no salt in the reservoir as it has been a problem for months, and I was only refilling it when dishes were not coming clean.

I poured 2 litres of hot water into the salt reservoir.

I then put the empty machine on the intensive 65 degree wash, half load and with the reservoir cap still OFF.

When finished I filled up with salt and HEY PRESTO the salt light is OFF!!!!

Just hope it stays that way until the reservoir really needs refilling.

While I was down on my hands and knees I took the opportunity to clean the filters in the sump. They do get full of bits!

I also flushed the sump by dashing a couple of cups of hot water into it and then bailing it out with a small yoghurt pot. I repeated this until the water in the yoghurt pot and the sump no longer had any signs of bits in them. (Dashing = vigorously pour)

I was amazed at how many bits I got out, especially considering I had given the machine a good clean in the past 6 weeks.

I even got part of a paper label!

So there we have it, try it out and report back.
