I have a 610 mule it won't start with the key.but will start if you jump the starter. Any idea?

It has a transistor that boosts spark power for starting when the key is in the crank position. usuall when it fails the engine will start but die when the key returns to run. Other times fails to start but will run in run position.

Starts but wont run after ignition switch is returned to the run position from the start position.

The problem is that when you have the switch in the START position, you are getting power to the ignition system, but not when in the RUN position. Most likely causes are a bad ignition switch, a faulty aftermarket alarm system [if it has one] or a bad ballest resistor wire going to the ignition coil's + terminal. You need to break out your test light and start checking to see where the fault lies.

81 Ford pickup starts while key is in start position, but dies when you release the key to run position.

You're probably loosing power to the coil or the ignition module from the key switch. The ignition system gets power from the key switch in the on position, and also from the starter solenoid in the start position.
You may need to trace the wire from the module to the key switch and check that circuit.
