Question about LG Refrigerators

2 Answers

Refrigerator will not restart for a very long period of time after power cut.

I have a 15 year old LG GR-L207EQ side by side refrigerator/freezer. Whenever the power is cut or switched off for more than a few minutes, it will not restart for several hours - even days - but it does eventually restart and then runs with 100% reliability and great cooling until the power is cut again. When the power is restored there is no "click" sound as there usually is if the power has only been cut momentarily, and the only thing that appears to be working is the light in the freezer compartment. There is no compressor or fan noise, no light in the refrigerator compartment and the controls for the water/ice dispenser and temperature adjustments don't appear to be powered.

Not knowing where you live I would suggest that you get a backup power supply that takes charge when you lose the standard power .

Nice idea but not possible in an urban area (Perth, Western Australia), besides I'm moving house in about 4 weeks.

There may be a faulty capacitor for the compressor motor
I would suggest a technician check it out as it should come back working within minutes of a power cut
there will be a short delay until the pressures even out as compressors have difficulty starting under pressure but you delay is extreme and needs checking out.

I checked the capacitors (start-up and running) with a multimeter. Resistance initially went right down and then gradually went back up. The running capacitor (5uF) took about 20 sec to get back to >20MOhms and the start-up capacitor (32uF) took about 20 sec to get back up to 1MOhm and was still climbing. I think that means that they are okay. Also, I don't know if capacitor issues would explain the fridge light and ice dispenser controls having no power while the freezer light is working.

MY viking side by side refrigerator isent working

If only a year old it will be fully covered by warranty. Meantime try disconnecting from the mains power supply for 30mins (dont worry the frozen items wont be affected for this short a period) then switching on again, as this may trigger the motherboard into normal mode
Good luck

Ice maker

pammytrent:

The icemaker only harvests / drops once the icemaker get to a temperature of Approx 15 Degrees.
Most manufactures Icemakers make approx 70 icecubes in a 24 period .

This can depend upon ambeint temp, use of product [opening closing of doors.
You will need to make sure the your condenser coil under the unit is clean.
Before cleaning disconnect power to unit first.
Air flow curculation in freezer can effect production also . too much food can restricting air flow, to little in freezer can effect ice production too .

hoping this helps

Check the back wall of the freezer for snow on it. If present you have a defrost problem which will reduce or cut off air to cool the refrigerator section.
