Most devices even new need updated - plasma televisions and tablets with an older os on them.
if android gets a new release tomorrow of course a brand new device in the shops will need updated - not just software but firmware needs updated when bugs are found and fixed.

Suggest removing old software for tomtom one in control panel or settings panel of p.c. and installing matching software for the new 1505m.
on another forum this software was recommended to remove the old tom tom drivers
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

the find latest software on link below

http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/localechange.jsp?referrer=https://tomtom.com/en_gb/mytomtom/getstarted/

The device needs updating to download the latest speed camera locations, speed limit changes and if you buy it the latest maps.

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Why does my TOMTOM say its updated on TOMTOM MY Drive, but the device keeps saying its maps are about 42months old, and it is!???? ?

When you update via 'My Drive' it will update the following
1. GPS settings
2. Firmware
3. Map Share correction
All the above are free and a actual map upgrade will cost.
You have not purchased the latest map, hence the annoying reminder.

Change the tomtom to my other car?

If you mean the suction mount then yes you can change it. Make sure the windshield is clean. From time to time I do have to clean with suction mount with a clean rag and water, but that is about all.

Does Puerto Rico come with the map of USA on tomtom.com that you can buy?

According to the TigerDirect specifications for the device, it does include the Map of Canada, Mexico, the Continental USA + Hawai and Puerto Rico.

But you don't have to believe that. You should visit the TomTom Website. You will have to visit it anyway if you buy the device: That is where you will get your updates.

Free maps downlolad

If/when you've just purchased a (brand) new TomTom GPS, you can register it (at the TomTom.com website) and download the latest map (for your device) .... free ... as part of the latest map guarantee.
Whenever you connect your GPS to the TomTom website (via TomTom HOME), you'll get (free) updates to your current map version - ... but they are NOT new versions of the maps.
To get new versions of your (current) map, you'll need to purchase the update (e.g. online, on the TomTom website). Upon paying for it, you will get the activation codes, etc. for you to download, validate and install the maps.

If your GPS has lifetime maps, (after you have registered), you'll be able to connect (via TomTom HOME) to get the latest map release, without requiring any code/password.

Cannot connect via 160 to tomtom home computer is 10 years old running windows xp

I was also unable to get TomTom Home to recognise my VIA 160. I called TomTom Support and was advised that there was a programming issue with TomTom Home and it was being addressed. They advised I would receive an email notifying me when the Home Application had been updated to allow connection with the VIA 160. At 21 February, I still have not heard anything back from TomTom and have not checked to see if an updated version of Home is available. If there is, hopefully the new version will work with VIA 160.. JT

TomTom map of Poland is hopeless. should get a free update on a new device. There are a lot of new roads in Poland and the device which I bought 2 months ago does not take it into account at all. Can't...

You will only get a free update on a new device if you install tomtom home on your computer and login withing the first 2-3 months of purchasing your device. Also, if you purchased a device that is "refurbished" or "recertified" then you do not get this free update and your map can be up to about a year and a half old. In this case, you would have to purchase a map update. To update you will have to install TomTom Home on your computer (download from TomTom.com) and login. You can typically purchase one update for about 45 USD or purchase a year of updates for just a little more (like 59.99 USD). A "year of updates" gives you an updated map each quarter for one year. I don't know that I would have bought a TomTom for use outside of North America or the UK. Sorry.

Tom Tom only has Guam map since update

That is really strange!
I can only suggest that you verify what MAPs are physically on your TomTom device by connecting it to a PC/LAPTOP and use Windows Explorer to look at your GPS drive folders: should see a folder for each 'country' (like GUAM).
The normal way to check which maps are registred and loaded on your device is to use TomTom Home -> Update maps function: it will show you the status or whereabout of any Maps that you have loaded or backup and which one can be purchased.
Hope it helps: let me know how you go.
ps.i f you wisely backup your device on a regular basis (via TomTom Home or direct copy to your PC/LAPTOP), you could always RESTORE FROM BACKUP and start again.
