How do I get rid of fleas in my house?

For starter, cut up a flea collar and put the pieces inside your vacuum cleaner. Vacuum thoroughly, including spaces between and under couch cushions, under furniture, and in closets. Seal the vacuum bag in a plastic bag and get rid of it promptly. To deal the deathblow to larvae in carpets, use a special flea powder. Keep your cat out of the room and vacuum the carpet the next day. Throw bedding, seat covers and any other washables your pet touches into the washer at least once a week. Wash with the hottest water possible and some flea shampoo that works against both adult fleas and eggs.

How can I control fleas and ticks in my backyard? I'm scared to let my dog outside; we just got rid of his fleas.

Here is what you need to do: cut all tall grass, trim all bushes and shrubs and rake all leaves under your bushes. Look into buying a lawn insecticide and spray under shrubs, bushes and all shaded areas. Wait a considerable amount of time after spraying (up to 6 hours) before letting your dog play outside.

How did my dog get fleas? Our house is clean and I bathe her once a week. It doesn't make any sense.

Unfortunately, you can take as many measures of precaution possible and you dog may still get fleas. Usually, dogs contract fleas from other animals; a stray dog/cat, raccoons, or other urban wildlife may have recently wandered through your backyard. Flea eggs were most likely left in your yard. They then developed into adult fleas which most likely jumped onto your dog.

I was telling a co-worker that my dog has fleas and she suggested getting special flea treats for my dog. What are these treats and where can I buy them?

Flea treats are a recently new innovation that will help your dog rid of fleas. They are made from a vitamin complex that after taking these treats for 10-20 days your dog will develop a natural repellent. They are completely natural and safe for your pet. Here is a site where you can order them for your dog and read more about the product.
