Depending on the consumer protection laws for your area I would try to get a replacement or repair under warranty as to me it is not fit for purpose
But you may have problems as you have left it a bit of a long time to get it rectified for free . It all depends on the consumer protection laws that you have but get it to the retailer as soon as possible
As it was a gift the purchase contract may be with the original purchaser so they may have to return it for repair replacement or refund .it all depends on the consumer protection regulations
