This means that more than likely something is loose or the capacitor on the power supply has failed. You will have to take it down and take it apart. I don't ever recommend that because technically you must check it for microwave leakage if you take it apart. Most people don't have that equipment.

SOURCE: Microwave light, turntable, and fan run after the door closes

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or occasionally by a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

SOURCE: My GE Built-in microwave model JVM1870 appears to have died

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

It may be the fuse, which is usually located behind the grille, on the floor of the oven behind the control panel, between the door switches, or on the filter board near where the cord comes into the unit.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

When checking TCOs or thermostats, if it has a hood fan thermostat, that should read open, as opposed to the others, which should read closed.

If the cavity thermostat needs to be checked or replaced you'll need to pull the oven from the wall.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here to make that easier.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You should do a continuity test on the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then turn the fuse by hand or take it out and put it back in, then test it again.

If you remove the fuse, then press the meter leads against the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

SOURCE: no display, open the door lights on

Chances are that's a bad connection on the control board, which we repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases in about a week or so.

But for a common counter top microwave such as this, if it's out of warranty, it would probably be more economical to replace it.

If it's less than one year old, it would be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

SOURCE: touch pad not working properly

That sounds like the interface controller which is just a little computer chip that cotrols everything and watches the signals from the touchpad is having problems. Usually these will behave like this and then just stop so your touchpad is totally dead. It may take out the time displays as well.

If you have warrenty from GE or the store it will be covered. If you are not covered then it can cost about the same or more as a new microwave as they will have to replace the board. Check your warrenty's, then check the repair cost and check replacement costs. Usually a new microwave is the cheapest.

SOURCE: Unworking microwave

Well this is not good, the magnetron has probably been damaged and the main fuse has blown in the microwave oven not to mention other parts that may have been compromised. If this is a older machine I would consider a new microwave oven.

You have a short somewhere. Possible causes, defective interlock switches for the door, shorted capacitor, shorted diode, defective triac. More than likely its one of these.

The light is the only thing that comes on when you open door. You either have a shorted door switch (Micro switch) or a shorted bulb. You have either a shorted bulb or bad socket. From my experience, it's the bulb. Just because it may seem to start to come on when you open the door, it's most likely bad. At least it not expensive.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

Assuming the entire power line from the breaker to the microwave cord is okay, it's almost certainly a bad connection on the circuit board of the control panel assembly. For reference, we repair these from all over the country for $32.50 postpaid.
