Question about Canon Eos Cameras

1 Answer

I bought the camera and it worked great through a couple rolls of film, the battery seemed to go dead so i bought a new one and replaced it.

Now the camera will meter if you hold the shutter down half way but if you click the shutter won't release. Any advice how to fix this?

Help with minolta x-300s, i cant seem to move the film winder

Well, here's the most likely things going on:

1. dead battery. Your X-300 has an electronic shutter that needs battery power to work. Try fresh batteries and check the battery contact wires for corrosion.

2. End of roll. If you have film in it, try the silver button on the bottom. rewind film and try another roll of film. Before you put in the new film, try the advance, click, advance, click thing.

3. Not all rolls of film are perfect. Some are shorter than they should be, some hang up in the canister.

4. The Minolta X-series were well known to have a problem. Two cheap capacitors on the later models would die, locking up the camera. One is under the top plate and the other under the bottom plate. These caps need to be replaced. I suggest you send it to a repair shop for that. Check prices. Garry's camera repair in Niles, IL does a very economical repair on these. It runs about $50 and $8 for return ship. He will also Clean, Lubricate and adjust it.

You could also buy another 300/370 on Ebay, as they're inexpensive these days.

Best of luck. Hope its just the film or batteries. You might also consider joining the Yahoo Minolta groups.

Minolta Maxxum 400si is locked up

link to your manual, it tells us that we have a winding motor problem, I would do as you have done, so I would ensure that batterys are in great shape, the only other thing I could suggest is to try to turn the winding motor by hand in case it is just locked up. Failing that I presume the motor has died and needs replacement.

I have changed both betteries. The field where the info is says help I do not know what to do. A roll of film got stuck halfway thru. I don't know if it was the battery or the camera I have never had...

at the bottomside of the camera you should see a tiny hole, inset a straightened paperclip into it, this will manually release the film.. if its a button type just pressing it wud do... try this if u havent yet...
the roll wud get stuck for two reasons... if u ve wound the film in the opposite direction or
It is possible that the film has broken free from the canister. You may have to try and push it back in the canister by hand

if that doesnt help.....you have to slowly pull the film out by hand. Sounds like there is just a minor jam and thats why the batteries are messing up. Just try to pull everything out because that will be the only way to free it. I see this problem all to often I work with Kodak. Im sure if you take your time and gently pull the film out turn the camera off and back on the cmaera will reset itself and should work just fine.

hope this was helpful thank you good luck with ur camera have a nice day

Dawn

remove the battery and check that it is good. replace battery and open back door, close the door and it should run the motor / transport. if so, load film up to the drive sprocket being sure film will catch on the sprocket.
or move the latch holding back cover, and open the door fully. check the pressure plate on the door, gently pull the plate up a little to increase pressure on the film. bring the holding lever out toward the latch and close the door to lock the lever back to position.

Give a cleaning to the contacts of the camera in the Battery chamber.
Look for the contact plate in the battery cover.
Look in the film pressure plate in the back door, and check its position or look for any dirt between them.
Then you have to check the drive motor.

the only thing that I could think of when I read your situation is, that you might not be using a DX coated films. see, the camera reads the bar code on the film and maybe it is not the same program. check the camear manual and make sure you are using the same kind of the suggested film in the manual. good luck
