As most small engines do not have a temperature gauge, try touching the air cowl over the motor
It should be cool
best do a service and remove that air cowl and clean all the dry dust and grass from around the cooling fins of the head and cylinder
if the drive is electric clutch then the engine stops , there is no power so the clutch disengages.

What would make my mower try to die w/blades engaged?

There are safty switches install on the seat. If you get up off the seat it will shut shut off. You need to to disengage the blades to get off the machine and leave it running. You may also have an issue with the switch setting. Lift up the seat and look for a switch trigger.

hpoe this helps...

JD318 runs for about an hour then it will stop and the blades will stop The engine starts up again immediately but the blades wont. After it sits for an hour the blades and engine will work

it sounds like you need to get the alternator or battery replaced the electric blade clutch is using all the juice from the battery

I have a 42 inch troy-bilt riding mower the blades won't disengage.

Sounds like either the switch for the blades is not shutting off the power to the electric clutch or the clutch itself is not disengaging. I would shut the mower off and unplug the wire to the electric clutch and then start the mower and make sure the blades do not turn you may have the belt for the blades on the wrong pulley and it might be causing the blades to turn. Hope this helps.

Bracket clutch anti-rotation

Without the anti-rotation arm installed when you engaged the PTO the clutch spun and probably ripped out the wires connecting it to the harness. This can be repaired but is tricky. If you have a Husqvarna dealer close by, it will save you several hours of labor to have them correct the problem.

Husqvarna pto problem(?) disengaged blades to travel, would not engage after. Battery dead when checked after shutting off engine and wouldn't restart

Hi, first charge or replace the battery if necessary then check that the mower is charging the battery. The pto is probably fine but it needs battery voltage to engage. If the mower has stopped charging the battery may have had enough voltage to hold the pto in until you disengaged it but not enough to re engage it. Regards Phil.

Blades rotate on tractor when new belt was put on

be sure you have the correct belt for that mower?
Even though your deck is raised to disengage the
belt it may need to go up a small amount more, try pulling back on the deck raise handle to see if that helps, and find a way to keep it at that higher point if that worked or run the new belt for awhile and see if that makes a difference.
Check the belt guards to see if they are close to the belt as possible while engaged, but not hitting the belt
and when disengaged guards should be hitting the belt somewhat to help keep it from turning.
and yes be sure you have good belt brake pads and know they have good tension and hitting in the proper place

Stalls when engage blades in forward, but cuts fine in reverse

Did you try to disengage the safety feature that should shut the tractor off when the blades are engaged and the tractor is placed in reverse? I believe that it is located under the shift leaver

John deere model 14sb lawn mower repair

Check for bad bearing in clutch immediately, Remove belt, try and turn the clutch pulley if it is hard to turn or feels rough, replace the bearing in the clutch. If you do not replace bearing immediately you will be buying a $300.00 clutch very soon. I know from experience. You possibly have been hearing a loud unusual roar from engine area for awhile and wondered where it was coming from. As these bearing will usually squall a cry for awhile before they die.
