If the spark is good and strong it is most likely a fuel problem. Small engines have very small fuel passages and lots of dirt tends to be introduced during refuelling by not exercising the care and attention to detail needed.

As small 2-stroke engines age they often become more difficult to start even when there is nothing tangible wrong with them. Usually this can be overcome to some extent by changing the procedure for starting a little and using an acquired intuition rather than the starting instructions in the handbook.

Sometimes when all else fails a little spray from the ether can into the air intake might help get it started.

SOURCE: My 2 cycle gas trimmer will not start? It's only 2 years old

Have you cleaned the spark plug , replaced it, or the carberation system?
If not, then this could be the problem.
Plug builds up corrosion over a period of time and cleaning is requird. also resetting the gap.
GAs goes stale too to flush out the old gas and put new gas.

SOURCE: I have a Troy-Bilt 31cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered that doesn't start

Coil bad or wire to coil bad. I tell everyone what Ill tell you, when it comes to small engines, troy bilt, poulan, weedeater brand all JUNK,JUNK JUNK! Theyre made cheap, not built to last, theyre throwaways. Carbs are made in china. If youre ever in walmart next time go back to the garden section and pick up a weedeater or poulan brand chainsaw or trimmer. Look at the package good and look at the factory life expactancy. Its not in months, not even days, but in hours. If I was you I would tell myself NO MORE! I would buy a dolmar or stihl, pay the extray, cause you wont be aggrevated in the long run. P.S. Dolmar offers a 100% coverage for ONE YEAR on all equipement.

SOURCE: leaf blower won't start. I think it's the module

If you haven't done it already, install a new plug. It's possible you're being fooled by a faulty/fouled plug. A fouled plug may not spark visibly - like if there is dirt down in the recesses of plug around the electrode. It would be a good idea to check it with a new plug before spending $80 bucks for a new ignition module.

Won't Start. Need manual (lost it). Where is the spark plug located so I can change it

You can get your manual here. You will need Adobe Reader installed on your computer to do so.
You will also need the serial number off of your machine to get the download from MTD/Troy Bilt.
You should find the spark plug at the end of a thick black wire. You may have to remove a cover to see it clearly.

I have a Troy-bilt 2-cycle trimmer "TB70SS" which apparently has no spark, might be the problem and how do I fix it?

Begin by changing the spark plug, and checking to be sure that the fuel is fresh [less than a month old]. The best way to check for sure to see if you have spark is to unscrew the spark plug, hook it up to the wire and then pull on the cord. You should see spark. This works best with an assistant to pull while you hold the spark plug 1/2 inch from the metal on the machine.

I have the same model from Troy-Bilt. I have only had it about 4 or 5 months. Mine has started using a LOT of oil. I noticed a significant increase in temperature compared to my old Husqvarna 2 cycle. Mine does not completely stall, but it does start to sputter when it gets hot. I am going to take mine back to Lowe's where I bought it. So far I am VERY unhappy with the TBP6040.
