How do I open an .xls file in 64-bit version of excel without it being in protected view?

Hello, I recently upgraded my excel version from 32-bit to 64-bit. I currently use a spreadsheet that runs a macro that saves a file received via email each day to a local folder and then open it up for use. In the 32-bit my VB coding worked without any issue. Now however when I run the code I get the following error message: Run-time error Office has detected a problem with this file. To help protect your computer this file cannot be opened. I have to manually go into the directory, open the file and enable it to be opened in edit view. Below is the current code Public Sub GetAttachments_CURE Dim FileName As String Dim i As Integer Dim timestamp As Date Dim filecheck As Boolean Dim ASK As String Dim TRYBOOK As String Dim Txt As String Dim Itemcheck As Object TRYBOOK = ActiveWorkbook.Name filecheck = False Set Itemcheck = Nothing Set olkAPp = CreateObjectoutlook.application Set ns = olkAPp.GetNamespaceMAPI Set Inbox = olkAPp.Session.FoldersLondon MO - Rates.FoldersInbox i = 0 If Inbox.Items.Count = 0 Then MsgBox There are no messages in the Inbox., vbInformation, Nothing Found Exit Sub End If For Each Item In Inbox.Items For Each Atmt In Item.Attachments If LeftAtmt, 7 Picture And LeftAtmt, 5 image Then If LCaseAtmt.FileName Like *.xls* Then If Atmt.FileName = MO_London_Rates.xls Then If DirC:\Temp\CURE.xls Then Kill C:\Temp\CURE.xls End If FileName = C:\Temp\CURE.xls Atmt.SaveAsFile FileName Workbooks.Open C:\Temp\CURE.xls If MidRangeA6.Value, 45, 2 & / & MidRangeA6.Value, 42, 2 & / & MidRangeA6.Value, 48, 4 FormatNow, DD/MM/YYYY Then MsgBox The CURE file contains old data!!!, vbOKOnly + vbExclamation, OLD DATA!!! I was like that when the problem exists when double-clicking in Windows Explorer. Then I get the message that the program isn't responding and have the option to close or wait. After a few moments Excel does eventually open and I can work on the file. I do not have the problem when I open the file directly form Excel.

Upgrading windows vista 64bit

Did you download your Win7 upgrade or did you buy a boxed copy? If you have a boxed version, check in the box. My Win7 upgrade came with both the 32-bit and the 64-bit DVDs in the box. Try using the other optical disk in the upgrade package. If only one disc is in the package, contact the source where you got the upgrade. Only the package for installing a new OS (OEM or full version) comes with just the one disc included. For those, you need to specify the type of system on ordering.

If you downloaded the upgrade, you will need to get a different upgrade file and burn it to disc or make a USB installer for that version of Windows 7.

To confirm your current version of Windows, click Start and choose the Control Panel. Click on System and Security and then on System. This page will display the Windows version and append x64 if you have the 64-bit version.

Alternatively, download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor , and it will confirm if your system is compatible with Windows 7 and which version you need.

I hope this helps.

(even the Windows 8 upgrade came with both the 32-bit and 64-bit DVDs in the box.)

New lap top is 64 bit computer but runs on 32 bit. program will not run

You will need to upgrade Windows to 64-bit. If you have Windows 7, usually there is a second disc for the 64-bit version. You can upgrade it without losing files. 64-bit programs can't run in a 32-bit Windows enviorment.

A) Open document > Select edit menu > choose select all > then choose copy from edit menu.
Open new document > edit menu> paste.
Select tools menu> choose options> window opens with options. Select form different tabs the edit tab> make sure that al desired boxes are selected.
Select save tab>choose and mark box>ask about properties
accept or Apply options and close.
Save new document different name. When saving it should ask if you want to save properties> choose not save. Maybe it asks if you want to modify properties> choose yes> select box archive amongst read only, hidden or archive.
If this does not work.
B)There are many 3rd party utilities which claim to reset forgotten word password:
The program that I recommend is the Excel Password Recovery 5.0 It recovers/removes the "Password to Open" and "Password to Edit" for you to view and edit the document freely.

Can i convert a 32 bit to a 64 bit

You can use the Upgrade option during Windows 7 installation, which preserves your files, settings, and programs, only if you're currently running a 32-bit version of Windows Vista and you want to upgrade to the 32-bit version of Windows 7. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows 7. For more information, go to Upgrading to Windows 7: frequently asked questions on the Windows website.
If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or vice versa, you'll need to back up your files and choose the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. Then, you'll need to restore your files and reinstall your programs. For more information about performing a custom installation, see Installing and reinstalling Windows 7‍.

  • To install a 64-bit version of Windows 7 on a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using a 64-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files.
  • If you start your computer using a 64-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files, but your computer isn't capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll see a Windows Boot Manager error. You'll need to use a 32-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files instead.
  • Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer files from a 64-bit version of Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista but you plan to install a 32-bit version of Windows 7, you can move your files to an external location manually or use Backup and Restore in Windows Vista. For more information, go to Back up your files and

I'm trying to upgrade from 64-bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7. When I run the installation disk, I'm getting the following error message, which appears to be contradictory in my opinion:...

I have seen this type of problem before, the only real way around it is to install a fresh copy of windows 7 not to upgrade, you will receive a message that asks you if you want to keep the previous windows in a folder called old windows, from there you will be able to access all your old files and programs, be aware though some programs may not work on windows 7, and you may need to have updated drivers for the systems peripherals. So when you run the windows 7 disk choose clean install and go from there. i hope this helps
