check that your speaker wires are connected properly, and none of the wires are touching. if this dosent work hold the sur mode and tune mode at the same time with the unit off(in stand by mode) and this will reset the receiver

SOURCE: I have a Harman Kardon AVR 235 Receiver that go's into Protect

To avoid making the avr go into protect mode when you power up your Hafler 4000 that is connected in the avr's pre-out, you must power up the set up in the correct sequence.

1. Turn off your avr
2. Connect Hafler 4000 to the avr's pre-out it it is not yet connected
3. Turn on your Hafler 4000. The avr will not go into protect mode becasue of the transients from the Hafler because it is still not powered on.
4. Turn on you avr. There should be no more transients from the Hafler at this stage unless it is not functioning correctly, so the avr shouldno longer go into protect mode.

SOURCE: My Harman Kardon receiver (

I used the live chat and the problem was resolved.
Usually the problem are strands of speaker wires which cause shorting and protection shuts off the receiver in order to prevent damage. There was one speaker that I repositioned recently which was causing shorting. I twisted the wires and tightened them in place and my receiver has been working w/o a glitch. I was lucky that I did not have to check all the wire strands on the receiver and all the speakers.
Problem solved and I learned valuable lesson.

SOURCE: can I conect harman Kardon avr 230 to apple tv

Yes, although it (AVR) does not support HDMI only component video.

Connect the audio to the receiver and the video directly to the TV if you have inadequate video inputs, or want to take advantage of the HDMI.

It's in the protect mode because of a component failure inside. It needs to be repaired to get out of the protect mode.

Hk 3490 receiver on protection mode....what it means and how to correct that

You can try a factory reset after checking your speaker wires for shorts. The procedure is in your owner's manual. This will most likely not resolve your issue. If you need further assistance, or would like to inquire about repairing your Harman Kardon, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com and contact me there. BTW, I worked for Harman, as Technical Support for all Harman, JBL and Infinity products.Thank you.

I have a Harman Kardon AVI 200 ii, when i turn it on it turns on like 3secs and then it automatically it turns off, why is that?

It is going into protect mode. You may have shorted speaker wires, you may have an internal short in a capacitor either in the filter section, or those on the output.
