Try running the motor in the dark. You may find it arcs to the chassis of the motor and that is your culprit. Had same thing on a hot tub 10 years ago. The professional techs tried everything for me. i finished the last part at 10pm and turned the motor on and saw the arc then trip the gfci. Good luck

What is a GFI device

A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is a special receptacle that acts like a circuit breaker when a ground fault is detected. It is very important to connect things such as pool pumps to this type of device

Can I change out a Hayward H400ID with an electric heater for the spa only? If so what electric heater product brand would you recommned. Raypak?

Hayward has manuals for each type heater, gas and electric.
Hayward also has contact page, and can probably recommend correct change-over product.

You want to switch from propane to heat-pump type.

There are likely 3 areas of difference. Read each manual and generally look for 1) unit size and capability to match spa 2) pipe connections and sizes 3) Electrical requirement

From electrical standpoint, You need GFCI-protected line from circuit breaker box, or GFCI (arc-fault) breaker. This will prevent electrocution risk around spa.

Wire sizes are based on volts and watt-rating of heater.
Each electrical device has rating plate showing volts and watts.
3500 watts divided by 240 volts = 14.5 amps so install double-pole 20 amp breaker and use 12 gauge wire.
1500 watts divided by 120 volts = 12.5 amps so install sinle-pole 20 amp breaker and 12 gauge wire.

My hayward pool pump not working, forget to close the air vent before pump started and is water allover the pump, what to do?

Water sprayed on the pump occasionally shouldn't hurt it but it might cause a ground fault circuit interupter (GFCI) to trip. If you turn on the pump and literally nothing happens then most likely the the GFCI has tripped. If it hums then this is a different issue. If you have a volt meter you can open the timer box and check whether power is available to the timer. If no power is available in the timer then it confirms that the pump is probably ok. Checking your circuit breaker panel for a tripped breaker or finding a tripped GFCI then either one can be reset and your pump will probably run without a problem.

I hope this helps.

My light is not coming on...I have reset my GFCI and still does not work. How can I tell if it is burned out? I thought the light would last longer than 3.5 years. It has not been used that much.

Mine has the same problem. I figured out that the lense cracked allowing water in and shorted out the PCB board that has the LEDs on it. Dried the board off, tried it again, it powers correctly intermittently. Still working on the problem.

Hi. I have a hayward lx. The problem is we turn it on and it works fine. A while later, though, we are finding that it has shut itself off. The circuit breaker is not tripping. I first thought it was the...

First is it plugged into a GFCI outlet? is that what you reset when you said you reset the outlet? Could be moisture in motor or wiring, or could be motor beginngin to ground out. Most motors have an internal thermal overload. If the motor is getting hot, it will shut down until it cools, then it will restart.

You should check your ground fault and reset if necessary. This particular swimming pool light should cycle through a variety of different light shows by turning the switch on and then off for no more than 10 seconds. If it is not cycling properly, you might be leaving the swith off for longer than 10 seconds or your bulb might have malfunctioned.

My Hayward Colorlogic pool light is flashing like a strobe light

That particular swimming pool light has a power-cycle feature that allows you to change the way your light illuminates your pool simply by turning it off and on. A strobe like effect is one of these power cycles. To change it, simply turn the switch off and then turn it back on within 10 seconds. It should reset to another cycle. It is is left off over 60 seconds, it resets to the first cycle, which could be the strobe. If cycling doesn't solve the problem, your bulb has probably malfunctioned and you are going to have to have a repair tech service it.

Multi color light will not come on/only flashes a second

These swimming pool lights are have a power cycle function. It could be that your power cycle is not working properly. Turn the light off for more than 60 seconds to let it reset. Then turn it on and off in 10 second intervals. If the color does not change or the light does not stay on, and you have tested your ground connection, then you will probably need to have your bulb replace.
