Question about John Deere Garden

3 Answers

Why won't my Scotts brand John Deere L1742 start ?.

It just cranks and cranks. I have replaced the battery, air filter, fuel filter, fuel pump, and spark plug. It also has fresh gas in it. It worked last year fine. When I changed the fuel filter I noticed that the fuel line is bone dry after trying to start it several times. I check the line at the gas tank and its not clogged in the gas tank. When I go to start it, it turns over but won't start. I don't smell gas at all and it doesn't flood. Seems like it isn't getting gas to the engine. Any suggestions on what else I could do to get it started?

How do you know the line collapsed? I mean does it look funny? As far as I can tell there is no gas getting into the line period

  • Eugene Rounds Apr 26, 2015

Due to the length and routing lines can collapse at the bends blocking fuel fuel. Also some newer lines have liners that separate and collapse internally with no outward signs..Take a large syringe place the end of the line at the fuel filter and pull a vacuum to try pull fuel through the line. If this don't work try replacing the fuel line.

check fuel filter first and that fuel pump works by openig at fuel pump and pushing fuel out just short of injection pump-- if no fuel pushes out prime fuel system by pushing air into fuel tank or using a in line hand fuel pump--- fill tank on tractor so that fuel is above injector pump also helps probably a prime problem

I am an ex-z820a owner because these machines are terrible. Deere issued a PIP for these motors and maybe yours has not beed done yet. The best thing to do is get with a dealer see if the PIP has been completed then sell as fast as you can. I traded my z820a on a z920a and couldnt be happier.

Very high likelihood you have fuel line problems. Disconnect primary fuel line from bottom of fuel filter and blow compressed air back up the fuel line to the gas tank. This will clear the line of any trash. Reconnect fuel line to filter. Then remove spark plug and spray a couple of sprays of WD-40 into the cylinder.. Re-install spark plug and then restart. WD-4- will act as a starter fuel and will start the engine for enough rounds to get fuel pump to working to normal run.. Good luck.

Just changed the fuel filter on a John deere 1020, is there a way to prime the injector pump?

If the fuel filter is full when replaced it shouldn't be necessary. But if you have access to compressed air, put air to the fuel tank and that will do it. Hope that helps ya.

John deere 420 trouble starting getting gas and

The engine needs air, so be sure the air filter is clean. If it is not, replace it.

The engine needs spark. Replace the spark plug and be sure that the battery has a complete charge.

The engine needs good fuel so be sure the gas is newly purchased, not gas that has been sitting around for months.

Ust changed the fuel pump on John Deere 6300 and will not start

Can you hear the pump run when you turn the switch on? If so, you have installed the pump correctly.
There could be an air lock...... there should be a handle somewhere for a manual pump you can loosen a fuel line connection and pump until the bubbles stop and all fuel comes out.
