Make & model would be helpful - also, when it reaches 85psi does it shut off or continue running?
Depending on the model - if it shuts off I would be looking at the gauges first to make sure they are giving you a correct reading, and then the pressure switch.
If it continues to run I would look for air leaks and then to the valves & piston rings.
With a little more information I can give you a better answer.

Allegedly there's an air leakage in the system.

Ac compressor kicks on when low side pressure is 85 to 90 psi and kicks back out at 13psi

You need to add some Freon so low side holds steady at 20-25 PSI.

I own a Campbell Hausfeld model WL650800AJ compressor, the problem is that the compressor will not pressurize over about 85 psi..where would be the best place to start troubleshooting?..BTW, there is

The usual problem with oil-less type compressor is the Teflon compression ring and cylinder will fail causing the problem that you describe. Easy to check. With cover removed, turn the pump until the piston is all the way up. With good light, check the condition of the cylinder near the top. If the cylinder looks scratched, air is leaking past cylinder and ring and pressure will not build up enough to reach cut-out. If cylinder looks smooth, then problem is head valve reeds or head gaskets. Indication of bad reeds or head gasket blown, is extremely hot head during fill cycle. Good luck

only 100 psi ,should be around the 200 mark ,i suspect that you could be low on gas ,forget these cans from supermarket and have it checked out with the correct machinery ,have it emptied out and vacumned up then reiflled to the correct weight of gas for this vehicle which i think should be 750 grms R134 then test for pressure and i have a funny feeling it will work correctly ,

AC blows warm. fan + compressor don't seem to engage.

The system could be low on refrigerant. The A/C pressure switch will not let the compressor run if the system pressure is below 28psi or above 455psi to protect the compressor from damage. At low pressures not enough oil (mixed in with the refrigerant) will circulate, and at high pressures, the compressor seals will likely blow. You can get a set of A/C manifold gauges for R-134a and check the system pressures yourself or get a shop to check it and possibly add some R-134a. If the system pressure checks good, then the A/C pressure switch, the compressor clutch, or some relays will need to be checked.

The pressure is getting less and less daily , hydrovain 705

Air Compressors do wear out. Rings wear, valves wear.

The compressor I use at work would build 135 PSI in about 8 - 10 minutes a year ago. Today, I quit at 85 PSI after more than 30 minutes running time. told the boss - Get a new one!

Hi. I just bought one and can't figure out how to get the pressure to start increasing? the power runs ok but the pressure is still at 0. thx

you could check the bleed valve.
it is located under the tank,
put on the unit and place your hand over the valve,
if there is air coming out of it then that is your problem.
some valves are made to tighten and some are made
to loosen. important stop the air from coming out.
if that is not the problem contact me for a next tip.
