How do I reconnect the throttle and governor linkage on a 5 HP B&S engine on a Craftsman Model 247 297650 rototiller?

I acquire this old machine and the throttle control cable was disconnected and the springs are missing. I have already rebuilt the carburetor but the linkage and springs are a complete mindbender for me. If anyone has a machine like this one in tact, I would really like a photo of the linkage setup for the governor and throttle controls. The engine is a Briggs and Stratton Model 130202-3116-01.

I have a 10 hs tecumseh motor on a riding mower i need an explode view of carb and linkage when start-up engine it goes wide open

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. I understand you have a 10 HP Tecumseh engine. There are service manuals available on line for your engine but without your engine model number it is difficult to pass you the correct one: Here is the link for the service manuals:
http://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Tecumseh_Service_and_Repair_Manuals

Somewhere in the list is your manual.
This is my best guess without your engine model number:
http://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Tecumseh_Service_and_Repair_Manuals/TECUMSEH_SERVICE%20_REPAIR_MANUAL_OHH50-65_OHHSK50-130_OHV11-OHV17_OVM120_OVRM40-675_OVRM120_OVXLC120_OVXL120_OVXL125_695244A.pdf

^-Make sure you read about Adjustments in section 1 also.

Running wide open causes:
1. Broken throttle control plate spring
2. Governor spring problem
3. Internal Governor flyweight has departed the governor gear.
4. Throttle plate (butterfly) attached to the throttle shaft in the carb throat has come off the throttle shaft.
5. Broken / missing linkage
6. Someone loosened the governor shaft bolt at the base of the governor arm and allowed the governor to get out of adjstment.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

I need the linkage diagram for a 20 hp briggs and statton model 407777-0167

Besides the service manual you can view parts diagrams at a dealer like www.arcolawn.com. You can purchase the service manual at a dealer and it will show you how to hook it up.
The throttle linkage hooks up to the throttle shaft closest to the engine. the governor spring attaches the governor arm to the throttle linkage.
The choke cable attaches to the shaft farthest from the engine. I hope this helps.
PS your engine has two factory service bulletins on it.

Craftsman 22hp 7500 zero turn mower 3years old.

Be careful - running ungoverned will quickly destroy the engine. Look at the carburetor throttle lever. There should be two linkages attached -- one from the manual throttle lever, another from the governor. The linkage to the governor is usually a spring. Perhaps that came off or broke, or a foreign object is wedged in there.

check the linkage for the governor, maybe on the wrong side, when off it should be pushing the throttle wide open, the governor brings it down after start up!

I will try again here.
1 wire link from the top hole in the governor arm to the throttle on the carb. There should also be a wire link with a spring that goes from the Governor arm to the speed control handle.

Location of governor linkage and throttle linkage

Try going to searspartsdirect.com. You can put in the engine number 143.955016 in the model search and it should give you a parts list and diagram for that engine.
