Question about Garden

1 Answer

I have asked this before have a bit more information now. The mower will go backwards but not forward every thing seem right underneath could it be in the wheels under the seat that have cork in them

I was told under the seat there are two wheels that have something to do with the gears they push together . could this be the problem and is it a big deal to fix

Cork is used as clutch facing on machines and usually works very well
if it goes backward but not forwards check the facings on the forward side of the clutch or look elsewhere for the problem

The right rear wheel intermittently locks up on my lawnmower when going forward stopping forward movement temporarily, until I move it backwards to "unlock" it. Any ideas?

There is an excellent 3 part video that may help you to fix this problem. Please see the 2nd and 3rd videos:
https://youtu.be/Vk_tpjKlbjM
https://youtu.be/DdiewLxTQDc
Things you can try:
(1) Remove casing over rear wheel drive assembly and perform a test run to assure all parts are moving as expected
(2) Lubricate the shafts with lightweight motor oil where the shaft penetrates into the gear box of each wheel
(3) Remove each rear wheel, inspect gears for damage and free movement. Grease up each drive gear and the shaft.
(4) Inspect gears on each wheel for damage.
(5) If none of the above fixes the problem, try swapping out the front wheels to the rear wheels provided the front wheels can accommodate the gearing on the rear wheels
(6) If this doesn't work try replacing the small gear assembly on the right rear wheel
These steps are illustrated in the videos.
Good luck and hope this helps.

The tines are not moving forward on my Rotavator. The engine is Tecumsah Vantage 50. The tines move backwards and the engine seems fine. The rotavator will not move forward

I have seen a number of domestic rotavators but haven't yet seen one with a reverse gear. You didn't make it clear in your description whether yours has a reverse gear and that is all that is working or whether it usually only moves forward but is moving backwards?

While it is theoretically possible for a 2-stroke engine to run backwards, your engine is a 4-stroke that is incapable of running backwards and so it would seem the gear selector is stuck if it has one or someone has carried out repair work and made a mistake or something else is broken.

The only thing that comes to mind is some of the older designs used an over-long drive belt that crossed in the middle like a figure eight in order to reverse the driven pulley and replaced the belt with one that seemed the right size would cause the machine to run backwards.

More information needed, perhaps...

Troy bilt mower 42 " rear end noise..forward and revers..very loud.????

Sorry to tell you but either the Gearbox or the rear Axle is broken. This may well be the time to think of buying a new replacement Mower, It is worth asking if they will give you any Discount on your present mower. If you do not ask they will not give you anything. Best Wishes, Malcolm.
