Where is belt tensioner on 2002 Sprinter


It stands to reason that all belt tensioners must concect the drive belt so they can put tension on it . They are all spring loaded and most have a square notch in the front of them to place a 3/8s extention from a 3/8s socket wrench to push the perload of the tensinor spring towword the center of the engine to relese the spring load and remove the belt . Then remove the center bolt in the tensinior and replace it .It is a ware part and also check your belt and the routeing you may want to take a quick picture first if you don't have a readable decal on the fan shroud You need to look closer at it or spend a lot of money to have someone else do it . I have a squealing coming from under my hood when i press the gas pedal and gets louder when I turn. I checked the engine and I do have a loose belt but I don't know what it could or couldn't be.


The power steering belt tensioner may be out of adjustment and the belt slips more under the extra load when you turn. Apparently you don't have one of the serpentine belts with a spring tensioner; when these fail the belt usually comes off very quickly. Examine the belt carefully - if the sides of the belt are shiny-slick from all of the slipping, replace the belt.

It's also a good idea to check the power steering fluid. This isn't something to ignore; a sudden or erratic change in steering wheel force in an emergency situation could be catastrophic.

There is no trick, you would just use a torx screw driver. If your spring isn't broken don't do this. If your rope is broken you can fix easily. Replace old rope with new rope of equal size, place rope into spring wheel and turn counter clock wise holding the spring wheel. place other end of rope thru hole in shroud, remember to hold tight you have a lot of tension there. Pull rope thru enough to tie a knot, replace your pull handle , untie the knot and you should be fine. GOOD LUCK.

need to find the belt tensioner and spring it forward then pull belt off make sure you remember the sequence the belt goes

Belt tensioner/bar not enough tension


Check closely where the idler bracket was at and also the spring location.
You look for a worn area on the frame of the dryer and also the worn area on the idler arm bracket. Once you locate the right place for them to go, then put your spring on and check to see where it may hook up, there should be a small worn spot to look for...Just remember that the spring will be under tension when it is hooked up. So look for an area that would be worn with the spring stretched out somewhat.
I will send you a website to check also, they have schematics of dryers and they may be able to show you the approximate location of the bracket.

Remember the belt rule, V of the belt goes in V pulleys.Flat pulleys that are stationary or move get the back of the belt. You can figure it out. Its not rocket science. Remember at some point there has to be a tensioner,usually gets the back of the belt if its a flat pulley. U may have to remove the spring and then reattach the spring after the belt is routed.

Timing Belt Broke while driving and I need to know how to replace the belt. The book does not say how to deal with the crankshaft etc....


You are going to have to check if you bent any valves also,Honda didn't use a non interference head.You can put a new timing belt on and you'll know but this could damage a valve guide and be a waste of time if you have to take it all back apart.Pull the valve cover and loosen all the rocker adjustments(make sure to draw a diagram and note how many turns it takes to back the rocker off,this will make it a whole lot easier to reset the rockers)a badly bent valve is going to show up easily as the spring height will be much shorter than the rest.Measure all the valve spring heights on all 3 valves on each cylider(If I remember correctly there is a third small valve)make notes of the heights and wether its intake,exhaust or jet valve.You'll have to be pretty precise,I'v seen valves bent and show as little as 1/16 of an inch difference in spring height.If there is any difference in spring height your going to need to pull the head and replace the valve(s).If all the spring heights are the same you got really lucky and didn't bend any valves and you can just replace the belt.I checked and if you go to autozone.com and register your car they have a good procedure for replacing the timing belt.Hope this helps.

no remove the belt remembering the belt on how it went on remove belt then remove the tensioner usually one bolt and replace tensioner then replace belt the same way it came off

Remove the front panel by loosening the two screws that hold it in place. Unhook the spring that puts tension on the tension pulley. Remove old/worn belt and replace with new belt. Very important that you use the correct size belt or the motor may be damaged and remember to hook the spring back for the tension pulley. The new belt has to go around the inside of the tension pulley.
