If it has brushes they can become stuck, I had the same problem and after some gentle tapping around the generator it started producing voltage again.

Rotor probably needs reflashing as they do lose their magnetism when in long term storage.

Testimonial: "how do you reflash it?"

  • Eugene Rounds Apr 24, 2015

Sorry for taking a while to reply been in the shop most the day. I also wanted to consult the wiring diagram. 1.First find the rotor brushes and disconnect and insulated the one closest to the bearing. 2.Now using a 12v battery. Connect it to the brushes with the positive lead on the brush closest the the bearing. 3.Start your generator. 4.If it was only needing reflashing it should be generating power again. Run it a minute or two and shut down. 5.Disconnect the battery and reconnect the brushes as normal and retest. 6.If was generating power with the battery connected and now it won't then the it is mostly the AVR (autoimatic voltage regulator) is bad. 7.If it doesn't produce power with battery connected then further tests would need to done but it does get expensive to repair from here.

Honda cb750 f2 1978fault on old bike ! electrical problem

From your explanation it sure sounds electricals, but surprising to hve a total failure to the electricals and thn it reappears after 30seconds!
Best would be to go through the wiring especially frm the battery onwards, the fuse box .
Since it is totally disappearing it should be a fault to those main wires could be lose connections somewhere!.
Hope this helps.
