It would be helpful to have told the technical support people the make/model of the router; each brand has different setups on how to set up security.

I can't get past my security code for my router, it's a secured access, I put in every password I know, changed it, and put in the numbers from the bottom of the router. What do I do??

On the Wii I had I remember when I set up internet I had to change my security method back to WEP on the router because the Wii couldn't use any other security method. That was several years ago though so not positive if they updated the console since then to allow other security modes.

How do i secure and place a password on this linksys unsecured wirerless router

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below. To get access, start your browser, and put 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, or other address for your unit, into the ADDRESS bar (not search box) of your internet browser. Every unit has unique access login and passwords, some are admin with no password, some are admin and admin...seek access information from the website of the manufacturer of your unit.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page before you leave it, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping this information to bottom of the router. (Physical access is usually not the security issue.)

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

Where do i find the security settings for my westell wireless router

What you do is log into the router and access the admininstration menu. To do this you put an address similar to 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of Internet Explorer. I suggest that you go to Westells site and download their install program, which makes setting much easier.

Here are the generic settings that need attention:

I have a Belkin router. Had to clear it and am trying to set and secure with new passwords. Put in http://192.168.2.1 and also .1.1 with no luck

Hi pamelaburgar,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want set a Security Code or Network Key to your network so that other people can't connect to your router you need to access your router. You need to make sure that a computer is connected to the router using ethernet cable so that it will communicate with the router.

You can reset the router first by pressing the small reset button at the back of it for 15-30 seconds while the router is on using a Pen or a Paper Clip. The lights will starts blinking it indicates that the reset was successful.

To access your router just open a Browser then type 192.168.2.1, password is blank. Click on the Security under Wireless. You can set the security type of your router to WPA or WEP to make it secure. Under that you can set the Security Code or Network Key. Personalize it so that that you can easily remember it.

Don't forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

Wep code

This code is from your router and not the motherboard. Go to the website of your router manufacturer, and get the install program from thier site, or at least the directions.

The security code(WEP)is a wireless acess code.
Here are the highlights of what should be set:

Netgear router wgr6144v7/ I need the security code to set up my TV / I cannot find the manuel

hold the reset button on the router for 5-10 seconds and let go. this will reset the router to default settings. that will probly take the security code off, or put the default code on. if there is a default security code it should be on the router, if not, then resetting will take the security code off

I have a Belkin router and I set it up months ago and it worked, now it stopped working. It says put in the right security code. I don't have the security code to fix it. What do I do?

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router .
Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If not then connect 1 computer to the router and open the router set up page. Once you open the router set up page, you will be able to find the wireless network key.
Use that password to connect to the wireless network

Click Here for step by step Instructions on how to find the network key
