While it starts to boot up, press the ESC key, or appropriate key that allows you to enter into setup. From the setup area, look for an option to boot into safe mode or into a Command Prompt. Once in safe mode, if it works, press start, and go to run and enter CMD. In this window type in bootrec /fixmbr and press enter. Next type in bootrec /fixboot and press enter. Restart your computer normally.

If you can start in the command prompt, enter in the same commands.

Also if you have a windows recovery or windows installation disk you can access the command prompt as well as fix any issues that are cauing your machine to not boot.

SOURCE: It suddenly will not boot up. WHen we turn it on, it shows the Asus load screen, and then goes to a "Windows Error Recovery" screen, asking us to start in a number of "safe modes"

Try all, if this not go into its expected boot up. Your options are repair, restore to factory, reinstalled depends on the features of recovery of your unit.

Back up your important files, drivers if needed, installation code if needed first before performing said solution

SOURCE: comes on but screen is black....doesn't want to boot up

Take out the battery and only plug in the AC adaptor.

If that doesn't work, then reseat each memory stick one at a time in each slot one at a time checking each time for video.

If that doesn't work, then take out the dvd drive, also take out the hard drive to make sure neither of those are shoring out the motherboard.

Also see if the hard drive light is flickering away at all. If it is then reseat the lcd cable to the motherboard and possibly reseat the cable to the lcd itself.

If none of this works, then the motherboard is bad and would either need to be repaired or replaced.

Your laptop is probably under warranty and you can verify it thru HP's website.

If you need more help let me know.

My Asus X553M laptop is not booting up. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Temitope, Hard reset. Open computer, remove battery, hold power button down (((1 minute))), reinsert battery, reassemble laptop, push/hold power button a couple seconds.
2nd fix, try to boot laptop without hdd.(hard drive). Remove the hdd, then turn on the laptop.. then it can get into the bios.. reset the bios to the default setting, turn off the laptop, and then turn it on again with hdd reinstalled. This seems to be what works in the forums with this issue found in Asus laptops. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

I have Acer 4710 laptop. 1. The screen becomes white during start up or when computer is left without usage for some time. 2. Also, sometimes, split screen come suring startup itself and booting...

It maybe one of three things:

1) Bad windows installation. IF you ONLY see this problem during the time you work with windows and NEVER during bios boot up process it could be your Windows installation but I doubt it. It is most likely a hardware problem:

2 a) The hinges of your laptop are becoming bad and there is a short in the wires that carry the video signal up to the screen

2 b) the video card of your laptop is failing.

The laptop just wont come on, it briefly shows a bit of writing on the top left-hand corner- too quick to read.???

Possible failure of the memory as the screen does not boot on. Please check the bios battery as this can also cause the PC from booting up. Look under the notebook for the small button cell- 3 V.
If not the fault is the memory or the errors in main board.

No video, no boot. continually cycles trying to boot

Well, if you've already checked all the necessary hardware and they all check out, it seems the only problem is the motherboard.
Actually, the more recent DV#### models from HP have had hardware defects, and they have offered to repair these computers if they show any symptoms of defect.
The chipset product line coming from ASUS was faulty, and have caused hardware failures such as this.
Call customer support for HP and have them schedule a repair for your laptop. They should repair it free of charge, whether the warranty expires or not.
Hope that helps.

Problem with my ASUS W3J also with BIOS.

Sounds like your hard drive is toast. Replace your hard drive and try again. If it continues, it may be time to replace your laptop.

Also check your recovery disks for heavy or concentrate scratches.

Eee pc 701 doesnt turn on

Make sure no external devices are plugged in.
If it's still under warranty you will have to return it.
Or take to an Asus support center as it seems to be a hardware problem.

Chassis Intruded, Fatal Error...System Halted

you need to go into the bios of your pc.....usually pressing the delete key when you see the first logo screen after booting up....look for a section that relates to errors and what the bios is supposed to do when it encounters an error.
i.e if you see a line in the bios that says "halt on all errors" disable it and when you next boot up the bios will not stall.
