Question about Televison & Video
What is the brand name to your remote control? After a battery replacement, it should be synchronized with its set-up code said for your TV brand. Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. It has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. One among it has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. Pull up older posts. Search the sites by type in the brand name to your device in its search box at the top right part of the display window. It will help you to find the relative post easily.

Sorry it took so long to give you a answer to your problem. The problem with the on/off touch pad is that it is wearing out. This happens with frequent use of the control. It will be cheaper to get a new remote control than repair the old one. You will have to make sure you get the correct replacement remote control to work with you older model television. You can call RCA customer support at this telephone number 1-800-645-4994. Give them the model number of your remote control and ask them what is the current replacement model number. You can ask them where to purchase it. You can also plug in the make and model number of the replacement model to your search engine. It will find places to purchase it on the internet or a local electronics store. I hope this information explains the problem you are having with the remote and helps you solve your problem. Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day!

SOURCE: remote to tv doesn't work
Check the remote first for its infrared emission. If it is OK, the infrared sensor inside your tV is faulty. It should be replaced with same type and number. It can be located just behind the infrared window at the front panel of your Tv. You ahve to open your TV ot access it. It will have three solder terminals, and will look somehat brownish black in colour. Will look like this.

If set turns on with the power button on set the remote is : not set to TV, not programmed for the set, has bad batteries or is bad.
If it even works one function it may need to be reprogrammed or taken apart to see if works---you can test the remote by pointing it at a digital camera with a LCD screen and pressing buttons to see if it makes the screen flash on the camera.
Test the remote first
