Go to and run their memory test program. It will tell you the type and how much your computer will accept. I use this program all the time, and it works well.

If I add 2gb of RAM into the laptop the power button just flashes

Please check that the RAM is the correct type. Also some older models may not support more then 1GB of RAM. After inserting the RAM ensure that you have it has been placed in the slot properly and correctly.

RAM upgrade

You can actually add another 256, or a 512 or 1 Gig there depending on the type of RAM you wish to install.

If the rams are identical like all 1-sided or all 2-sided modules, they can work harmoniously. You can't just mix a 1-sided ram with a 2-sided ram.

But the safest way for you to do is simply bring your laptop to the store where you wish to buy the ram upgrade. There, you can readily test the compatible ram and buy it.

Standard RAM Failure after extended RAM replacement

Sometimes only certain types of RAM cards work with a computer. Check the old card to see what type it is. (Look for the letters "CMOS" or "EDO".) Make sure the new card is the same type as the old one. If not, put the old one back in and find the proper type of card.
